Kia Soul sales go insane in April! They drop the Aveo down one notch in the subcompact year-to-date sales race...
One thing you can say is the Aveo is doing reasonably well considering it's in the last year of production of the current model (stale). But they tend to fight staleness by equipping the outgoing model with good equipment / pricing to keep sales going.
April stats....
Total 2010 sales, Jan - Apr
37,933 ......... Nissan Versa
18,278 ......... Hyundai Accent
16,375 ......... Toyota Yaris
16,074 ......... Kia Soul
14,991 ......... Honda Fit
12,571 ......... MINI Cooper
11,339 ......... Nissan Cube
10,861 ......... Chevrolet Aveo
9,598 ......... Kia Rio
4,141 ......... Suzuki SX4
2,945 ......... Scion xD
2,077 ......... Smart ForTwo
Aveo is narrowing the gap catching up to the Nissan Cube. In March the difference was ~1100. It's less than 500 now.
Comparing April 2010 sales vs. April 2009
+61.80% ......... Kia Soul
+43.90% ......... Nissan Versa
+28.70% ......... Chevrolet Aveo
+14.20% ......... Honda Fit

GM popped 3888 new Aveos out the showroom doors in May. Well above the monthly 2010 average of 2950 so far, and the 2nd best month this year. But 2010 is shaping up to be the lowest annual sales since the car came out. Looking like around ~35k cars.
For comparison, the average monthly Aveo sales for 2004-2009 is 4941 cars. For 2009, the previous lowest year (44,739 including G3), the monthly average was 3728. (* But 2009 had a pretty huge boost from Cash for Clunkers - it would have been the lowest year without it.)
I'll update post 1 with the comparison to other makes if/when subcompactculture.com posts the info.
Anyway, that's still 3888 more future forum members!
im surprised the versas are selling so good
Versas don't look that bad... but their transmission is weird IMO... People look at you funny when you accelerate and your RPMs stay relatively the same... it's almost like driving in one LOOOONG gear...

there was one guy that told me to go kill myself after he tried to argue with me that a $9999 Versa was better than a fully loaded Aveo, his car doesnt even have a radio, I still do not understand what he was taling about
Yet the Versa remains at the top of the 2010 sales list. One day we'll find out why...
Updated post 1 with May stats to compare against the other subcompacts.
in 2009 i went car shopping for my dad, he drove a s10 4x4 and jumped on board for the cash for clunkers program. im sorry to say the reason why the versa sold so well was because the aveo was horrible compared to the versa. the aveos shifting was sloppy, it was loud, clunky, and was about the same price. the versa was roughly 400 dollars more.
You may be saying, then why are you on here? Cause the 2010 aveo fixes all of that cheap, nostalgic vibe it was giving off.
And the toyota yaris was 2,000 dollars more expensive then the versa.
what do you mean? the 2009 and 2010 aveo's are exactly the same..
and that price on a versa must be a regional thing they are never within $1000 of each other around here,
but the aveo styling is 10x better than the versa, the yaris is styled well but its different lines, while the versa looks more like a half deflated tit on wheels.
i had drove a versa once, i dont like it at all, my auto tranny shifts super smooth and i dont hear it at all, it looks soulless, but then again, the guy wnated to kill me because I didnt agree with him
