Guess what I'm doing Saturday??? Timing kit!

Yep, I got the timing kit in today. So tomorrow I'll go tackle it. I thought I was just getting a no name one from Amazon. I was just looking for a metal impeller on the water pump. This one was about $100 plus the cost of the two special tools. I'm only doing this cause I have no way of knowing/telling when it was done last. This kit comes with a sticker to place under the hood to write the date and millage when it was done. I just wonder what is covered by that 60,000 mile guarantee... Funny thing is, every time I see that word or hear it... I can't help but think of Tommy Boy.

Installed and back running. The old belt was down to the cords. Someone rounded off a few head bolts that held the upper timing cover on so I had to break it and then piece it back together. I don't have an air compressor here at home. Took a little thinking to get the crank bolt off... But since I needed a new serp belt and had a new one to put on I used the old one to my advantage. Wrapped it around the crank, clamped it down with vice grips and wrapped the rest through the axle and around the rotor. It wasn't pretty but it kept it from turning.Name: 1126161044.jpg

Awesome! Do you have the link on Amazon where you got it from? I'm thinking of doing it myself when the next 60k miles hit again. Was this your first time changing the timing belt?

That's awesome thanks! I thinking of undertaking the timing belt for the first time. Last time I've done this is on a 1993 Geo Metro but there were no worries of bending valves. Pretty much fool proof on that car. I had my timing belt done at a Chevy dealer and guess what... They bent the valves. Thats because they had tools and instructions from GM. According to the tech onve he got the belt on the then turned the engine on and then bang. Got a new cylinder head and of course they picked up the tab on that.

if you don't have air, get this:
      Electric Impact Wrench - 1/2"

I used this a lot and works well for home mech use. BTW very clever solution with using the old serpentine belt as a friction lock.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

I bought one a year ago and it's a excellent product. I have that one and air one as well.
