I've waited as long as I can for a good double din head unit that runs the latest android and runs it well. I realize that just now, released in the past couple weeks, there is a new software app that mirrors your phone onto a pioneer app radio 2 called ARLiberator. Its new and they are still ironing out bugs. Unfortunately I had already ordered the majority of parts I need for my install (including the nexus 7), and at $499 not including the special cable you need, the App Radio 2 itself costs way more than what I've paid so far for my setup.
I'll post pictures of the install once I get it started. I am still waiting on some parts to arrive, which should be this week, but I thought this forum would be the best place to post my progress. For anyone else who wants to try this, I'm going to link to all the parts I've ordered for an idea on how to do it.
Some things that I have ordered:
Asus Google Nexus 7 tablet (Linky) This will be the head unit. (received)
A Pair of RCA Female to 2 RCA Male (Linky) This is to connect 2 channel headphone to 4 channel stereo amp (received)
Headphone to RCA cable (Linky) Audio out from tablet. (received)
Nitro 4 Channel mini amp (Linky) To power the car's speakers and small enough to install inside dash. (ordered)
Trim removal tool kit (Linky) So I don't scratch stuff up. (ordered)
Double Din install kit + harness (Linky) Bought for harness and in case I could use the mount (received)
Things I might order if I need them:
RCA volume control (Linky) I like having a knob to turn for volume and not messing with tablet settings.
Fiberglass kit (Linky) In case I need to modify the dash to make it fit.
I still don't know if this will even be doable, but I'm in it to win it, so even if its a substantial challenge, I'm going to try and accomplish this, heh. I'll post pictures when I start and more parts if I end up needing them.
Wish me luck! heh
