They're just held on by some glue/adhesive. Use fishing line, wrap it around your two index fingers, and slide it underneath the letters in a sawing motion. Diggin' the ride, man - I have a black '09 LT myself. Can't wait to see how the tail light tint works out. I got some for mine but haven't had time to get it on yet.
Personally, the first thing I did when I got the car off of the dealer lot was de-badge the mother. But that's just me.

The only mod was the system that I had in there and I was able to to pull it out when I totaled it.
