Re: Ahoy! There she blows!

I've been wanting to change the trans fluid anyway. I found that thread via google, I wish I could get logged in and talk to him - but, alas... my account is non-functional there? Not a clue as to why. Now I also noticed that the valve cover is different- which was fine because mine would fit. But t...

Re: Ahoy! There she blows!

Ugh, was just told by an ASE certified tech that it HAS to come out from the bottom... not even possible in my garage.

Re: Ahoy! There she blows!

Well, seeing as I am limited on space in the garage - and have a full size motor lift, I'm going to have to pull the motor from up top. So, safe to say instead of beatin around the bush, takin' pulleys off, hoping it'll fit etc, I should just go for pulling the trans with it... What's attached to th...

Re: Ahoy! There she blows!

So a few more questions and I'll have the motor out. a) how do I depressurize the fuel system b) how do I disconnect the fuel system from under the intake assembly (hard to see ANYTHING) c) Do I pull the motor WITHOUT the trans, or WITH? If answer to C is WITH... things will get a bit more interesti...

Re: Ahoy! There she blows!

Will definitely look into the metal impeller.

The belt I got last time was a Goodyear Gatorback.
Needless to say - it held together and didn't tear ANYWHERE, after dragging THROUGH the plastic idler wheel and digging a notch the entire width of the belt. I'd call that a good belt!

Re: Ahoy! There she blows!

Good to know, will swap that this weekend - ordering fresh timing parts too.

Any suggestions on engine removal / disconnecting things?
Any suggestions on what BRAND of parts from rockauto.com for timing pieces?
I have a brand new idler wheel, all I need is belt, water pump, tensioner.

Re: Ahoy! There she blows!

Ohhh yeah... so they also smashed the valve cover on the new motor - not just the trim, a hole into the real cover. So that's gotta go. I was going to use mine then realized they aren't exactly the same (PCV system)

The gasket part #'s match up - will the bolt holes as well?

Re: Ahoy! There she blows!

**UPDATE** I tried to get on here a few weeks ago, sent an email to mod because I could not log in with my password etc. Nothing worked, said my username didn't exist. Anyway, didn't seem to get a reply but it's working now. So! I did buy the $420 motor, 30k miles on it and it's 3 years newer (2007)...

Re: Ahoy! There she blows!

Oh, and any ideas why the 07 motor in grade A shape with 30k, is only $400, and the 04 motor in the same condition is $1200? Same yard? My thoughts are there are more needs for the older motors, so they hike the price and they have a need to get rid of the newer motors before they sit there and rot ...

Re: Ahoy! There she blows!

You mean the CEL right? That I can live with, it doesn't need to be inspected till April so I got time on that. As for the 'differences', the only thing I have to swap is the throttle body correct? Will my existing exhaust fit the same? Transmission bolt right up? The 06-08 motors have 105hp vs the ...
