Shift Knob Problem

Postby thehunterooo » Sat Feb 06, 2010 6:11 pm

i bought a shift knob for a manual, and fits good, but when I put it in park and shut off the car, I can not get my key out as the button is still being pressed down, anyway to bypass this?

I notice on your car you have a straight shifter. The hatchback model stayed about the same until here recently.

I say straight shifter because yours moves from PARK to 1ST in a straight line. If you look at some of the earlier cars, like my 04, The shifter has to be moved from side to side and up and down.

Now, I state this because I am having an issue with my car not releasing the key when I shift it to PARK. You might want to check out my thread, but you mention something of a button. I know the Manual 4 Speeds had a ring you lift to shift it to reverse, and the only button I know of on the automatics is the HOLD button. Mine is on the shifter base (where the PRND321 is at) and not on the shifter.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you might have the same issue I am having...worth checking out???

the straight line shifters have a button you push to lock them in each gears, so it doesnt just get bumped into reverse or something on the highway..

his issue is he eliminated the button, but stuck then lock in the open position. same part of the car but different reasons why it happened.

hunter you need to remount the shifter to be able to use the button. or figure out the the switch wiring to the ignition switch an jump or unhook the connection. or buy the right knob..
