Major Gauge Problems

I attempted to put those new gauge faces on my aveo, but do not know how to take the stock faces off and put the new ones on. I quit and put the needles back on, and calibrating them is horrible. I got the rpm, fuel and temp. gauges right i think, but the mph one is messed up. Any ideas?

typically, the speedo you take the needle pas the stop at 0 mph, and see where it rests.. then put the needle in the same spot when putting back on. And turning it back up to the stop.

if you didn't do this already. then i am not sure what to tell you.

ok, i got the speedo pretty close to where it should be, maybe 2-3mph off, i got it to where it was going about 10mph and put it on, i just wish i knew how to get those faces off

I have no clue, I thought there was a screw in the top corner of each face holding it? Maybe they're glued.

they are glued, and it seems the only way to get to them is to rip the entire cluster apart, something I do not want to do tonight

To take the stock faceplates off, you must remove the cluster completely, take the protective plastic cover off, carefully remove the needles and then they easily peel off, they are simply glued. Be carefull as you need to reuse the little black things the needles rest on, you put them on the new faceplates before you install them. Stick the aftermarkets ones in place of the stock ones after you remove them.

For the needle calibration, turn your key to the "ON" position but dont start the car, having a full tank of gas and the car beeing warm (normal operating temperarure) will make it easier.

For the fuel and coolant temp needles, you should note where the needles where when you took them off (this is why u need a full tank of gas and the engine beeing at normal operating temp, as you know where they are) Carefully reinstall them but dont push the needles all the way, 1st you let them go because they will drop with the weight, if they are not resting where they should be, take them out and re adjust until you get them right, then push them all the way in.

For the speedo / tach needles. With the ignition still on the "ON" position and the car not running, rest the needles on those little black things they rest on when its not running and gently push them in. You keep the ignition on because the cluster sets the needles at zero for both tach and speedo.

Start the car, chek if your tach reads normally, if not re adjust but you shouldn't have too if you did it right. Take a spin around the block to chek your speed needle, have a friend side by side with his car to make sure. Again should be ok if you reinstalled them correctly.

i tried to peel the speedo one off but it would not come off, ill have to try again in a few weeks. How did you peel them off at?

Just pull on it, theyre glued fairly well so you need to use some force, just be carefull of the little black pins for the the needle to rest on.
