Well this could take some time to do but... you could make something that pretty much connects the cruise wires to the back of the plug, like small metal pins you can just plug in there, a jig in a way. And just keep trying it. Or you know that if the two wires get un hooked, you will only be able to accelerate half throttle and your check engine light will come on for a little bit. That could tell you. I don't recommend doing this but if I was pretty determined to do it, that's how I would do it. Or try doing some research on it, and maybe you mind find something that helps.

in my opinion, i would splice into the harness and the plug where the clock spring would plug into. then you will have the wires the factory would run to the switch but are not carried through the clockspring. you could probably figure it out quickly too since the only loose wires on the plug would be those and radio control. that is if anyone can confirm if the sterring harness is an option with the column, or unuversal like the rest of the harness.

if you do it like the diy is and are running thw wires through the hole for the wiper switch, the wiring harness is right there under the column cover.. you would need 6" of wire instead of the foot or so.. and wouldn't need to climb under the dash.
