Re: Metal Themostat Housing
in the front by the radiator, should be easy to change out, might as well so that no problems are encountered later on

Re: Metal Themostat Housing
you cannot say you will have problems or not..
i would replace it if needed (like thremostat goes bad, or something) but as long as everything works, i wouldnt take the system apart.

I mildly disagree. With the reports I've read about the plastic housings cracking after just hitting a bump, I figured it was a small investment to avoid the hassle of a breakdown, tow and repair job.

Re: Metal Themostat Housing
there are 1000s of cars with plastic thermostat housings. is it the best design? no. is the aveo inferior? yes.
is it going to break hitting a "bump" no, mostly from what i have seen it is a weak point when the rad moves in an accident.
reinforcing it probably means youll break the end of the rad off instead.or kink the hose and still overheat.

Hitting bumps no....normal wear...yes. Mine actually cracked and blew up under normal conditions. replaced it at 65,000 miles. I might get this metal one...I hate that everything is plastic.....

Re: Metal Themostat Housing
i believe there are recommendations in true mechanics manuals to check the structure strength of plastic piping in the engine starting at 50k. and replace when needed (and any additional parts you disjoint in the process)..
failure at 65k sounds right, and if you replace it, you should need to worry until 130k..
