Valve cover gasket - spark plug seals

Postby dpawl31 » Thu Oct 15, 2009 12:11 am

Hey guys, have that lovely oil in the spark plug well.

I know there are seals under the plug wells, but for some reason I am mindblanking on where they are.

They are under the valve covers right? Or part of the head?

I've never taken valve covers off a car, only a 27 year old motorcycle.

Any tips/hints?

you valves cover comes off from the bolts around the outside, you have to take off anything else in its way though, such as plug wires. etc.

your valve cover has gaskets something like this:

the inner gasket must be the one leaking. you will want to replace the whole set though one you break the seal.

On my old beater car, I just used gasket sealant and put it back on. Costs like $1-3 a tube. Used it on the lawn mower too  when I bored it out some to get a little more kick. I would buy a new gasket if it was my aveo though and not use the sealant, old beaters are a different story.

ya I think 40-80 a bit high lol

I have found it for $12 online, says dealer cost $18.

But - does that include the oil seals for the plug holes?

That's what I need to find out.

That might be another $12 or so.

Fine with me, but I need both.
