SBD Motorsports 1.6L - 241 Hp Naturally Aspirated

Postby precisionboost » Tue Nov 03, 2009 9:38 pm

As the title suggests.... SBD Motorsports out of the UK is one of the worlds best tuners for naturally aspirated Vauxhalls

http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Main.htm

As they quote... "The 1.6L development reached 241bhp/148lbft a few years ago"

They have a great supply of engine parts and were really focused on the 1.6L for a number of years.

Now they have started to heavily develop 2.0L parts.

Here is an example of the power curve for their basic multi throttle kit... which makes 140hp close to the 8000RPM redline.

Keep in mind that they sell aftermarket engine management systems for the 1.6L..... so your not going to manage 8000 RPM with your stock ECU

140hp at 8000 rpm, but a lowly 106 lb.ft of torque. You probly will only feel the power gain over 6000 rpms when the aftermarket cams kick in all the way to 8000 (think of it kinda like honda's cam lift system)

The cams/ecu beeing able to keep the torque curve flat above 6k rpms is whats giving the car 140hp. Afterall a flat torque curve is what you want. But i wouldnt want an aveo that you have to rev the crap out of it to get the power gain, if i wanted that id get a honda with a vtec.

Get more torque at lower revs.
