Plugs problem

Postby Reddemonx92 » Sun Nov 22, 2009 1:46 pm

So I was changing my spark plug wires today since my old ones were worn out already. I remove 3 of the wires and find oil is in 3 of my spark plugs. Now my car shoots white smoke out the exhaust. (kinda sad because it makes it look more rice)
Any idea how much its gonna cost to fix this? i really don't want to keep driving it like that.
Thanks

did you take the plugs out? sounds like you have a slight misfire from oil getting on the plugs from switching the wires..

you need a new valve cover gasket i am guessing.. add new plugs, and clean everything really well. and do an oil change.

probably looking are $40-60 if you DIY, paying someone maybe another 2-3 hrs labor, at whatever your shop charges (80-120 here)

Valve cover gasket is one of the easiest basic repairs you can do on a car. It'll be good for you if you do it yourself. Plus, since you're gonna have the valve cover off anyways it would justify the excuse to go ahead and paint yours red. :D

but yea i went to autoparts store and they dont have the valve gasket for the aveo.
oil was already in the plugs before i switched the wires because the old wires were also soaked in oil.

I'm not sure exactly as I have a 2G, but the new gasket is around 20 bucks US. Fairly simple, anyone with a 1G care to chime in here with a DIY. Thanks.

well you could take off the oil pan, the remove the oil pump, and then drop the crank, remove the cylinders, remove the valves. then you will be able to see the valve cover...

or you could pop the hood and take the bolt off around the outside edge of the valve cover.

You could. They're everywhere online. I can't believe Autozone or Shucks or Napa wouldn't have them. That's odd.

Yes, it should come with all the seals. I believe it's all a one-piece design. We went over this with someone else I thought? Here's what it looks like:
