Where is the fuel filter?

Postby Nemasys » Tue Jan 05, 2010 7:27 am

Im having some trouble with my engine misfiring pretty badly sometimes and i think its due to a clogged fuel filter cause when i punch it its perfectly fine.

I wanna know where the filter is located and how to change it.

there has been a lot of debate about this (i never looked) but i think it is along the frame rail by the gas tank.

a lot of people insist it is in tank, but others confirm that is the pickup sock.

typically though fuel problems would be the reverse, idle lower rpms are good, and starvation at higher throttles. what you de3scribe sounds like a vacuum leak, or possibly maf/map sensor? it could even be timing if you advance isstuck on, or if the pickup is going bad.

light or any codes?

The car starts fine and operates normally but when i let it idle for a few minutes its starts bucking like crazy as if its not getting enough gas, it also does this when the engine is very cold, it has no power when i lighly press the gas so i have to mash the pedal then it suddely comes to life.

The same problem occurs if i let it idle when its warm, as soon as the car doesnt move for a min or two, it starts to idle really badly you can hear the engine choke out, sometimes it stalls.

I replaced the spark plugs, checked the wires, checked the spark, no vaccum leaks are noticable, everything seems to check out fine, my only option is a fuel delivery problem.

My car didn't start today. Got it towed to the dealer. Apparently it's the coolant sensor that's fudged. Will know tomorrow for sure. Check that. Mine was working fine and just quit today. A bad coolant temperature reading will give you bad fuel delivery, especially at idle.

I would also check your coolant mixture as 33* is just barely freezing temp your water/coolant ratio might be off a bit. Of course you already know this though, you're up north like me. :D

I change it yesterday :) It is accurately located right behind the last right wheel ;)

Well we had some -20 weather not too long ago. Plus everyime I get an oil change they check the ratio. Apparently on my last oil change my mixture was 50/50, So not problems at least until -37C.
