200 Hp Factory Ecotec Engine

Postby LarsBud » Thu Feb 11, 2010 11:46 am

The Saturn Ion Red Line coupe uses a special 2.0-liter version of the standard Ecotec engine that benefits from the addition of a supercharger and an air-to-water intercooler to boost power to an estimated 200 horses. A beefed-up five-speed transmission with close ratio gearing and a short throw shifter channel. Talking with a few of my tooner friends, they think this would be a great engine to drop into the Aveo.

Found two Engine; $3,200 and the other $5,000

They are the cobalt ss engine, same basic engine is available in the cobalt ss, saturn redline, hhr ss, Saab 2.0t, and the Pontiac solstice. The later have the turbo version with 240-260 hp stock!

Swap of the engine is in an aveo called the green monsrer

Unless your looking into dumping some serious cash, forget this swap, you will need the engine and all its accessories, the transmission, ecu, wiring harness, fabricate new mounts, have custom axels made, custom exhaust made, custom wiring because none of your gauges will work...

Theres alot more i could lay on the table, way too much money for what its worth imo

Or just keep an eye out for a wrecked RedLine or Cobalt SS and fab the gauges and other crap all into the Aveo...Lots of work implied.

These Engines are complete with Tran., and everything. Would be a full swap, but the two Ecotec engines look very close.

For the expense and work, put that money into a second car as a toy. Upgrade the intake, header, and exhaust; put the rest of your money into something else. Keep the Aveo car a reliable daily driver.

I really don't know why people keep coming back to using Aluminum ECOTEC engines in the place of Iron ECOTEC engines..... it is just as much trouble to drop in a Mazdaspeed 3 direct injection 2.3 Turbo that makes 265hp and 300 lbft of torque.

Sometimes I just don't get it.... there are dozens of Iron Block Ecotec engines that will fit.... 1.4 , 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.2, 2.4 and that is just the 4 cylinders.... of those there is one factory turbocharged 1.6L engine ( Z16LET ) and four factory turbo charged 2.0L engines( C20LET, C20GET, Z20LET, Z20LEL, Z20LEH )

Why on earth would anyone want to try and put in something that doesn't fit.... especially a pathetic 200hp aluminum ECOTEC is beyond me.

The cost of getting a 2.0L turbo shipped here from the UK is not that bad... with all said and done it's probably under a couple grand..... and it bolts right up to the Aveo without any major issues.

Having said that I still think it's much easier to use the C20GET which is readily available throughout north america in the 1987-1991 Pontiac Sunbird GT Turbo.

For a couple grand you can have a nice powerful fresh engine........ for 5K you can get bullet proof forged internals.... if you have 20K to spend you can put in forged cranks, high flow C20LET head and crank up the redline to 10,000 RPM or 12,000 RPM depending on how deep your pockets are.

Right now project "Super Swift" which is a Suzuki Swift with a rebuilt C20GET ( 2.0L 8V that can be found at local junk yards for $100 ) absolutely kills even slighly modified Subaru STi's

The STi's can catch "super swift" in the straight away but in the corner the swift really shines and knocks out the STi.

So..... with some money and effort any one of you could have a highly modified Aveo/Wave/Kalos/Swift that drives like a Go-Kart and pushes well over 300hp.

So........... for $5K to $15K you can have a fast car that blows the doors off pretty much anything out there.

Oh...... the 2.5L, 2.8L , 3.0L V6 engines..... some of which are found here in north america will also fit into the Kalos chassis.

Personally I'd stick to the 4 cyl turbo cars.......... but for great "factory" power and torque a Cadillac Catera ( Opel Omega ) 3.0L V6 will make the Aveo chassis very fun.
