Hey guys im new to this forum, i've been thinking about doing the 2.0 swap. I just hav a few questions. Can i keep my stock transmission or do i have to change it? Did the 2.0 bolt right up to the stock motor mounts? Were did you order your engine from? and what about the wiring harness and ecu?

Since ive been asked this countless times, heres a question for you.

How much money do you have to dump into this project?

If you dont have much right now forget about it cause your gonna need around $2000 just in parts to get off the ground.

This briefly includes:

- a 2.0 engine
- 2.0 flywheel
- the entire accessories system
> a/c compressor if you have or want to keep it
> alternator
> power steering pump
> serpentine belt tensionner

- all supporting brackets for all the accesories plus the belts
- 2.0 ecu... you can keep your 1.6 wiring harness but you need to modify it to accomodate the bigger engine

Basically you need a COMPLETE turn key engine, meaning everything needed to make it run properly. Some of these parts you can get at a junkyard but 1/2 of these cannot be found and you must purchase them at a GM dealer, be prepared to spend between 3 to 600 dollars on these parts alone. Remember that virtually all salvaged engines come incomplete so you wont know how much your going to spend until you actually see the engine in question.

You can keep your 1.6's transmission and mounts.

In my opinion its not worth it for the power increase it gives, your better off to get a complete exhaust system and headers and the 1.6 which will give you equal if not more power then a stock 2.0.

That's not counting engine oil, transmission oil, coolant, power steering fluid, brake fluid, hoses, nuts and bolts if your missing any... etc etc etc

All the little things add up very quickly, you can be surprised.

What do you mean by the entire accessories system??? If you dont mind would you please specify?? Im actually going to try and get ahold of a wrecked forenza from the junk yard or something. The whole car so i can just pick and pull what i need!!

The accesories are the things that run off the serpentine belt, which include the alternator, power steering pump and a/c compressor.

Your best bet is to get a wrecked Forenza and get the entire drivetrain out from A to Z, including the transmission and the ecu and put it into your Aveo.

The Canadian made Chevy Optra also carries the same drivetrain.

I hope you know what your getting into to get the 6 speed, it will cost you over 3 grand to get it working into your Aveo. If you want any info regarding the 6 speed, you might want to have a chat with exist3nce, he has it into his turbo Optra but he also paid big buks to get it.
