Aveo 2.0L Turbocharged

Postby Nemasys » Sun Apr 04, 2010 7:11 pm

Some of you might have noticed me saying i was planning something for my car early summer.

Well its time to unveil what i was brewing. A custom turbo setup for my 2.0

- T3/T4 T04E .60 A/R Compressor .63 A/R Turbine Turbocharger
- 27 x 6 x 2.5 inch FMIC with 2.5 inch universal piping kit
- OBX 38mm Wastegate
- OBX Oil Catch Can
- HKS SSQV Blow Off Valve
- 2.5 inch downpipe modified to fit
- AEM UEGO Wideband gauge and sensor
- Boost gauge that matches my tach

Later down the line:

- Magasquirt II stand alone engine management
- DSM 450cc "Bluetop" injectors

The stock exhaust manifold will be used with an adapter plate. For now the car will run untunned at low boost (3-4 psi) with a 25k resistor on the IAT sensor to make it run a richer map under closed loop. It wont run for long under these conditions as its really a temporary thing until i get the megasquirt in about a month and a half. But it should handle the boost just fine, thats why i have a wideband to monitor the fuel ratio.

After the fuel management is installed the plan is around 8 psi to produce roughly 200 whp. Clutch will remain stock until it starts slipping then i will get the clutch kit from Garret (gse_turbo) on daewootech.

Ill post a write up as i go along installing the kit, i have a friend of mine helping me out. And i will also post ALOT of pics.

The install should be done and rolling by the end of April. Stay tuned, im exited! :D

Congrats on starting this project, I hope it goes well for you!

I thought I would answer your PM here for the benefit of everyone.

Regarding the MAP sensor check valve, here is the schematic for the one I built .... its more of a bleed type system, although it uses check valves. I have tried the Synapse Missing Link, and it worked as well, however I found that there was some noticeable delay on quick vacuum signal changes (fast throttle movements) which caused the ECU to delay the acceleration enrichment. This was not the end of the world, as the car was still drivable and ran fine at WOT, however the slight hesitation was very annoying.

As for your planned setup, I would suggest getting the MegaSquirt installed and running before putting the turbo on, or at least before boosting. Driving around with the turbo on and untuned is fine, just don't floor it. Tuning is not something that should be "left for later" or considered less important in any way. Proper tuning is the key to achieving power AND safety, without it you have neither. I doubt the 25k resistor on the IAT sensor will add enough fuel even for 4psi, but I guess you will find out if you try that trick (let us know how it goes if you do).

Can't wait to start seeing some pics :)

if you are going with stand alone, why are you also using check valves?

i would convert the car to a maf, example:

Thats a good point.... if you are going full standalone, then the stock MAP sensor is not even used anymore. The megasquirt has a built in MAP sensor that you connect your vacuum line to. I know you can also use the megasquirt as a piggyback too, so maybe thats what he is referring to.

I am well aware that the Megasquirt has a built in map sensor and the stock one will not be needed once its installed. And yes it will be installed so it acts as a piggyback.

But im going to need a temporary fix to keep the stock map happy until i get the Megasquirt, hell i might just use 2 fish tank check valves, 1 for blocking boost and a "bleeder" one if any boost gets thru the 1st one.

I know its really not ideal to run a few pounds of boost with an untuned car, but i wanna see if it can take it, of course i dont wanna blow the engine so im not going to floor the thing 1st time out for a drive, ill take it slowly. If its running too lean then i will take the bov off to bleed any boost out of the hole until i get the megasquirt, it shouldnt be too far down the road, maybe a month at most.

Ill keep you guys posted on how it goes, right now still waiting on parts and i have a few other parts to buy.

Ill post pics when i start getting the parts in!
