The geabox is now installed im just waiting on my axel to finish the job. The only thing i had to do is swap the release system from the d16 and put it on the d20. Both casings are identical so its direct bolt on.
D20 Tranny - Car is finally back on the road!! ITS ALIVE! :D
Re: D20 Tranny - Rebuilding my axel shaft
Yea i would love an F28 but just cant afford it right now. The D20 should be more then enough for my power needs tho.

Re: D20 Tranny - Bad luck struck once again
You people will never guess what. Oh yea thats right, the damn gearbox i bought and installed myself doesnt work.
It's stuck in reverse when its suposed to be in neutral. 1st, 2nd dont even go in. The rest do but it wont go forward its stalls the car if i let the clutch go.
So i have to change it once again... Really getting tired of this bs.

not to undermine your intelligence. but did you try shifting directly at the input shaft and not with the linkage?
maybe the input selector locations for the syncros are in different places or in order?
keep us updated.

Linkage is at same place as d16. I tried playing with it but its stuck in reverse and any gear i try to put it in stalls the car. It wont go forward no matter what i do.

Re: D20 Tranny - Bad luck struck once again
That's one thing I like about VW's. I'm pretty mechanically inclined I guess, but I kinda just guess my way through things. So, when I bought my Jetta is had a blown tranny. It took me 5 hours to swap the clutch, tranny, flywheel, starter, and CV axles. The only thing that got me was How do I get the tranny out? Turns out once its unbolted you have to rotate it 180 degrees and weasle it out the bottom. Tricky tricky.
