D20 Tranny - Car is finally back on the road!! ITS ALIVE! :D

Postby Nemasys » Tue Sep 15, 2009 9:40 am

After my horrible accident at the drag strip lol, i got a D20 tranny coming by the end of the week with 50051km's on it (thats 31100 miles) for $220 CAD.

Im gonna install it myself this weekend if weather is alright, should be rolling by the weekend, really hope this is 100% bolt on HAH!

please document this very well, because if the D20 is the same as an F20? then i can look into the f28 swap... since there are kits for those.

but it will probably be more than an ss drivetrain, i keep leaning towards too soon.

I really doubt an F28 will bolt onto the Ecotec engines. The D20 and F20 are the same gearboxes im 95% sure, the only difference between the two is i think the F20 is cable driven and the D20 is hydraulic

The F28 will bolt straight up to the 1.6 and the 2.0, but you need to prep it to able to use it.

Its a 6 speed gearbox, originally all wheel drive, you need to install a conversion kit to make it front wheel drive only, the speed sensors from our cars fit on it no problem, you also need to convert it to hydraulic and you need to make a custom mount for it.

Exist3nce (Turbo Optra on daewootech) Has the F28 installed in his car.

from what i have seen on http://www.v-tuning.com/ if a f20 will bolt up, then a f28 should because you can swap between the two after the preparations you already listed.

Yeah, if you get a f28 prepared by v-tuning, all you would need to do is install your speed sensor on it and make a custom mount.

Im starting to get scared if the axel shafts from the D16 will work with the D20, i hope so cause else im not gonna roll this weekend lol. If the D16 axel shafts dont work, ill need to buy a set of D20 shafts and wheel hubs.
