Ticket for Window Tint

Postby Manorness7 » Wed Feb 17, 2010 4:29 pm

So I got a ticket today for window tint in New York. I only had my rear windows tinted, no fronts. I guess we can't even tint our rear passengers. The trooper said we can paint the back window if we wanted to, as long as we have both side mirrors. Absolutely sucks! I just took all of it off in like 30mins, and used lysol with ammonia spray and a razor blade to squeege all of the glue off. Surprisingly lysol multisurface with a razor blade takes the glue off really easy.

I honestly thought you could tint the rear side windows.. guess I was wrong. I even called a local barracks and they said it was legal but then they called me back 2 hours later and said, "Wow, I thought it was legal, but in the book it does state they have to allow 70% light transmission on a car".

The part the irritates me is that he said if you had a truck/ suv/ convertible you can tint the rear side windows... I thought the was ridiculous, but I presented myself in an extremely polite manner. I told him I would peel it off right here right now, but he still gave me a damn ticket. So now I have to go to court with pictures of it off. Damn it, I hate having untinted rear windows... car feels naked. Left the back window and tiny side ones tinted 5%, because he said those were fine.

Tint is state by state. In florida you can do limo tint all around I think. At least lots of cars have it that way in ft lauderdale.

florida lets you limo tint the back and rear windows, but we normally limo tint the fronts and put something light on the windsheild, though we know the cops around here so they wont pull us over anyways, sucks to hear dude

florida is 30% on the fronts and none on the windsheild also

I'm so pissed, this cop was like pulling people over non stop today in front of the college for window tint. He had another cop scouting it looked like. Like everyone has all rears tinted, but of course trucks/ suvs are fine or if it's factory. Our state must need money bad, because this is seriously ridiculous. I wonder if there's a way to get factory tinted windows on the aveo... even though factory tint is 18%. Probably have to special order?

I'll be even more pissed if the judge lets the ticket stand when I go to court after taking it all off. Though I will have to pay like a $55 surcharge anyway. But like normally I present myself in a calm and polite manner, if you don't you never get good outcomes..

EDIT:
Found a website that has every state's window tint laws... you may want to check it out:

http://www.tintdude.com/atoh.html

Has all 50 states, just need to select according to alphabet under the ads by google thing.
