does anyone know the exact rim weight of the OEM 14" Steels that came stock on our Aveo5? (Not weight with tires mounted)

Steelies or Alum. rims?

Steelies i believe.

If they have the hubcaps they're steelies. I checked around and all I could find were the weights for 15" steelies. Somewhere in the ballpark of 16.6lbs.

Thanks I'm trying to compare new rim weights so I may not have to upgrade calipers and rotors.

How big of rims are you thinking of getting that you would need to upgrade your brakes. 17x7.5 is as big as you would want to go on a car this small. That's what I run, The only thing I noticed in my braking w/ rims on is that I actually had better stopping power due to a bigger footprint and better performance tires.

Dang I just threw an old 14" steely away.

I have one that looks very close, but isnt from an Aveo. maybe a cavalier or civic. I dont have a scale though, so I guess I can't help.

you dont have to upgrade brakes for the weight of the wheel. the heavier wheel actually slows the car.
the brakes are match to the weight of the car and estimated speeds..


of course if your running 28" then momentum will fry your brakes.

haha just picturing 28s on an aveo.... strange very strange

(side note The steel wheel & stock factory Kumho 185/60x14" tire & plastic hub cap w/lug nuts cover weight is 32 lbs each).
