Re: New Head Unit
Yeah they are, just looked. Wondering since they're pretty slim if I would need them.. Looks like I'll have to take a door apart and check it out.

You will need the spacers no matter what. It also makes mounting the 6.5 simple. You can buy off the shelf plastic 1" spacers that will work, but I don't think you will be able to roll your window down all the way with anything more than 2" depth. You could make a deeper spacer out of MDF say 1.5 but then you may have to alter your door panel to fit over it sticking out that much. There are some decent infinity shallow mounts that fit, as well as some kenwoods. Don't know of any Alpines though.
BTW the RMS output of that HU is 18w

Thanks for finding that! It says RMS is 20w. Thanks haha.
I just took the door panel off and measured and can go 2 1/8in safely for mounting depth. I did find some 6.5 SONYs (Sony XS-GTX1640) that have a mounting depth of 2 1/16 - 2 1/8in. That would work, even if they just barely touch by a hair I can raise the spacer slightly with some washers or something. Let me know what you think about that.

If you use flat washers to space your speakers you'll notice a rattle when performing at high volumes. Speaking from experience.

Yeah, thinking of maybe using a rubber material to eliminate that.
Edit:
Just bought these. They're Sony 6.5n with a nice 75watt rms on each speaker. Has a mounting depth of 2 1/16 - 2 1/8in. Should fit nicely.
