My new deck is putting out 80watt rms to each speaker (x4). As it stands now everything sounds like crap when I barely turn it up 25%.

that rating on the head unit is 80 watts peak.. its probably 32-35 watts rms.

I'm sorry, but that is technically impossible. With the internal amp of the deck being class AB, the maximum efficiency is has to be around 70%. That would mean that at maximum power, the head unit is using 460 watts of power. At 14.4 v, it would be pulling over 30 amps. That is if the efficiency is 70% of course.

The 80w rating per speaker is a peak rating. Typical decks nowadays can push up to 20w rms per output. Even that is pushing the limit of the fuse in the Aveo.

Wow then... I totally feel like an absolute idiot! I should have realized that, obviously that would be ridiculous if it "was" like that. Thanks guys appreciate the helpful responses. So... looks like I will be able to handle an amp with no issues

Don't worry about it. 20w in a 30w or 80w speaker with the same sensitivity will have the same loudness. I have 50w speakers all the way around in my car, but that is because when you look for aftermarket speakers in 5 1/4, they're all 50w rms +.

You would be able to run an amp later on if you wish, although people don't realize how much power 20w really is.

True when you run all the speakers with the same power source, they will all get roughly the same loudness in theory. Sensitivity and speaker composition will make exceptions to the theory.

AutoteK is part of the maxxsonics family (MBQuart | Hifonics | Autotek | Crunch), so the speakers should be decent.

Audiopipe produces a slim component set ATS612N mouting depth 2.5" (lightweight and sound amazing)

Looking at getting some 6.5s for the fronts. How shallow would they need to be to fit without having to make spacers? Or will I need to make some anyway? The ones I'm looking at have a 2 1/8in mounting depth. Thankyou guys for all the help.

They're pretty cheap on eBay.
