My own personal thread for my 09 Aveo5!

Postby shibbs » Mon Oct 25, 2010 11:12 pm

So I bought a 2009 Aveo5 a few months ago with only 5200 miles on it.

The day I brought it home.

Not too many plans, pretty much just wheels, tires, tint, and Rabbit's coilover kit thingy. Kinda looking at the 09/10 spoiler, too.

Got the wheels in last week:

Will wait until spring to get tires for them, and hopefully by then I'll have the extra monies for the coilover kit, also.

This weekend, I got a chance to put the car on the rollers at the local shop---mostly just for laughs. All the guys were taking bets on how little power it would make. Guesses ranged between 55 and 75 horsepower at the wheels. (Mustang [heartbreaker] dyno)

I think it surprised everyone.

thats what i get for not hitting that little down arrow.

i'd have to know how the gears are off from 1:1 you were.. and ive heard the, say that doesnt matter for peak hp, but i imagine it does.. but with "factory" claims of 107 average and a typical 15-20 (15 for manual 20 for auto) % drivetrain loss, that would put you with an expected 85 or 86 hp to the wheels for your auto.. then gear selection, and the fact a lot of factory numbers are conservative (thought to be mostly with higher line companies but yeah daewoo). And I've heard mustang dynos are a little higher reading (not sure about that believing one) I can see the 12 hp pick up..

imagine a cai, exhaust, lighter wheels, etc..

any chance that dyno shop could crack the aveo computer?

I beat a 4cyl auto foxbody mustang with my aveo(auto but shifting it) lol
I lost to him once cuz I didn't shift and kept it in D4.
My friends and I was suprised cus the mustang came with 115hp(I think....)

He dosn't want to race me untill he get's the 5.0 in it.... :(

Just got done putting a set of H4 Hi/Lo moving HIDs in this thing. Much better. Beam pattern isn't QUITE as good as I thought it would be, but its very tolerable--for me and oncoming drivers.

I only went with 5k bulbs to keep the usable light to a maximum.

Pics in a bit.

After seeing this pic you'll think they're not actually 5k bulbs. Well, the lighting in the garage SUCKS. haha

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/Apexc ... or-HID-Kit
is the kit I went with. H4 Moving Hi/Lo. 5k bulbs, 35watt. It is a kinda interesting kit, as it actually only takes a signal from the driver's headlight socket. It then uses an included power harness to run to the passenger side. Very plug-and-play, and it only took me about 45 minutes with only a 10mm socket, and some double-sided tape to mount the balasts. Very happy with the fit and finish, but not really surprised. I've used this same brand of kit in my Subaru (H7 bulb, 55w kit this time, and still 5k color) and was more than satisfied.

Well, on to what you guys want - the pictures. I took a pic of the under-hood area, but I won't bother posting it, as I hid the balasts... Literally looks perfectly stock. :geek:

Bad news in this update:

Apparently the 1-ton ford van wanted to be in my lane more than I did.
