Cams

Postby Reddemonx92 » Tue Feb 08, 2011 10:19 pm

Im not a fan of starting new topics but I hope this one gets some reply and info lol.
Ive been reading alot of stuff on daewootech and is it true the lanos and aveo engines are almost identical except for some minor differences.
And i think i read somewhere else on that insanly large forum database that the cams are interchangeable and the lanos cams are actually better than the aveo cams?
Just wondering if anyone has any info that can clearify all this. It will make finding cams for our cars better i guess.

i have already made a post in the past about this (lanos cams i think is the header).

but basically the short straw is yes they do fit however u still need to have a remap done obviously and get the timing set up correct and i think if i remember rightly the lanos cams do still need some grinding done to them so it's not 100% straight forward. u get about 20 more lift and another 30degreas rotation again if i remember correctly. someone commented on my post who had done it in Singapore he said there was a noticeable difference but not a huge amount

I remember this, i know most 1.6 etec stuff is interchangeable, even 1.4 and 1.8 might be.

but you need to know the specs of the separate cams for how they compare.

small differences in duration and lift will be accounted for by the engine management, you might be able to add the computer form the car they come out of if you compare all the other specs. to get that engines rated hp, or at least more.

its all trial and error, i would try chip tuning before the cams myself. And then a short block swap to 1.8.

Ok thanks for clearifying because what it seemed like everyone was saying was that it was pug and play basically. Can we even remap the aveo ecu to accept the lanos cams? And how do i go about the block swap your talking about rabbit?

the block swap is "just" that, finding find the differences, and making them to your car. or buying the block and putting it in.

I have mostly researched the ecotec. But the etec II was available in 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 as well. If the block of the 1.8 is the same as the 1.4 and 1.6, then you could stick use it for more displacement

So if i can get the 1.8 block ill get more hp out of it? Will i be able to keep my headers still? I just really want to know if i can get any more power out of my aveo. If i decide to change to manual can I use a different tranny then the normal stock aveo tranny?

i think most of the f series transmission fit. personally i would order a diesel 1.9 trans from the uk. taller gearing.

Oh ok i was thinking of maybe the f-28 i think it is. Just trying to figure out how to get some more power out of it. Worse comes to worse ill finish the interior of my car and buy me a small project car. I really dont want to give up on my aveo though i like seeing peoples reactions to it. When i went to get it dynoed some honda people actually liked it lol.

the f28 fits, but the f32 (6speed from cruze) is almost the same, and is more readily available as a fwd trans already in the us.

So its good to put the f-32 on instead? Plus i guess 6 speeds would be better than 5 speeds lol Still waiving my options around. I want more power but everything just seems not worth it unless its a swap.
