09 Aveo 5 Fog Lamp Part Confusion !!! (Must Read)

Postby HitecRednec » Mon Oct 05, 2009 6:14 pm

Folks dont be fooled... when you order fog lamps for your 2009 Cheverolet Aveo Hatchback do not order using your VIN Number if your Vehicle did not come with fog lamps. Use a VIN number of a 2LT model that DID come with them. There are 2 VERY different fog Lamps for this vehicle.

DO NOT ORDER GM PART NUMBER:

96650540, 96650541 ---- These are the cheezy textured opaque lenses and they look like crap not to mention they reall fit badly.

ORDER THESE:

96650792, 96650793 ---- These are the Euro style Fog Lamps with the clear lense and the highly polished chrome reflectors that really look incredible.

I also ordered these 2 housings to be absolutely sure of a good fit their part numbers are 96808145, 96808146 they are very cheap at $11 and some change each. I will follow-up on need for these or not once they arrive.

Where did you guys order from? 11 bucks or so huh, we get our PFD on thursday so I'm gonna order mine finally. I've decided to go 3000K yellow in the fogs instead of 30000K green.

I ordered my chrome rings through the dealer supplier:

me on aveoclub wrote:I cut the black center out to test fit the other fogs i have, it works, just timely.

i have the part numbers for the chrome rings: 96808192 & 96808147, gmpartsdistributer.com would be able to get it for you cheap, use the vin : KL1TG66EX9B607434 to make certain you get the right parts. (don't order anything else at the same time)

The ones pictured in the email have the exact arm configuration as what is shown at the dealer parts for the 09 aveo 5.
I already ordered a set, so if you want to wait for them to get here i can write it up for you.

i got these off ebay:

upon initial inspect, with a comparison to the sedan lights, they are perfect. somethings i noticed are non fluted lenses and the black housing is visible through the lens because of that, but the way they install it will not matter, and if anything it makes them match my headlights more. the mounting points appear they are where they needed to be when i test fit the sedan lights too. Positive so far!

Ok, I've got it figured out. I was checking all the part numbers on gmpartsdistributor.com. These 2 numbers he said not to order 96650540, 96650541 are for the sedan which explains the poor fit. 96650792, 96650793 are the ones he was talking about and are the only ones offered on gmpartsdistributor.com for the 09 Aveo5. 96808192 & 96808147 are the correct numbers for the chrome rings around the fog lights. All together on gmpartsdistributor.com it comes to $143.38. I'm gonna order them today.

Done deal, ordered the fog lights, chrome rings, new hid headlight kit(purple) and new 3000K H3 hid fog light kit. Not bad for 300 bucks all inclusive.

I dont think these are the chrome rings. They are the replacement black covers for the whole fog light area. I'm pretty sure, I might be wrong though.

I plan on getting some fogs for my '07 but I'm going with either the 3000k (yellow) or the 4300k hids. I just don't know what color temperature I should go with for hids... it's hard to choose sometimes.

Well, living in alaska and also working for a trucking company on the ice roads I can tell you I've tried almost every kind of light they make to date. What I can tell you is if you genuinely want a fog light that will actuall pierce the fog and increase your visibility you want yellow 3000K. Blue tends to work the best in a bad snow storm however pure white is the best for pitch black night. Color at that point is just for looks, and theres nothing wrong with that. We use a lot of Australian "Light Force" lights or "Roo-Lites" up here, they have a bunch of different color lenses you can buy. I've noticed on those that the red and green lense covors do nothing, they just look cooler.
