Alternator upgrade
Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do for upgrading my alternator? Im getting a system installed in the spring pushing between 3-4000 watts rms. Im going to be picking up an Odyssey battery, but need to know if there is a direct fit high output alternator for an '06 hatch. There is a shop in my area that says the space is too small in the engine bay for a larger one, and they would need to gut the factory one and upgrade the internals. Any help would be great.

Yikes! Maybe I might tone it down a tad then. Guess I will have to put together something that will only require a 200 amp alternator

Re: Alternator upgrade
isnt 4000 watts rms like 10000 watts peak? depends on ohms..
does the aveo even have room for that?

Aveorob, your math is undeniable.
If you are running a system that will be running at 4k+ wrms daily, you will need additional sealed batteries, :Batcap, Kinetik, XS Power (3-4+) in addition to a high output alternator in order to cover the amperage needed to maintain that kind of wattage.
Just a quick fact a stetsom 4k2d amp which can produce 5.5krms at 13.8V at 2ohms can pull as much as 520A.
Now if you are looking at an amp that says it will produce 4000 watts and it is not in RMS then chances are you will have more then enough power on tap with the h/o alt and an upgraded sealed battery up front.
For amplifiers that will give you 4kwrms you will pay 1k+ USD new and closer to 700+ USD used.
If you would like assistance in designing your 3-4k+ setup, I will be glad to assist in anyway that I can.

Re: Alternator upgrade
I still don't get why you'd run such a system daily in a car...Really. I have a 140W AB Amp pushing a 150W RMS sub in a sealed box...Plus upgraded speakers (components in the front, 2-way in the back with a decent head unit) And I see no reason to go bigger or louder. My system is loud enough to give you hearing damage and ear aches.
