Legally, they can not enforce inspection laws upon non residents.

So you could limo tint your whole car, black out all the lights, etc. As long as it is legal in your state, you can drive it anywhere..

Is that true though? Say I get Vermont plates so I can legally tint my rear passenger windows would that fly? Or do I have to have a license with a Vermont address? I honestly believe, I may be wrong, but after learning what I know from College Government and Law Statues that no matter where you are from you need to abide by the laws that the state you are in has. Just because you don't get pulled over for it doesn't mean it's legal I mean I've had my rear windows tinted for about a year now, until now... This would be good to know though, I would love it if someone can find something to prove it true or untrue. I may have to go to Alaska for an internship for Wind Turbines, and I'm obviously driving the aveo there.

As far as I know, the only way that'll slide is if your car is registered in another state and your driver's license is also in that state. What part of Alaska?

yes you have to be licensed and registered from somewhere else.

they can not enforce state vehicle inspection code on persons not residing in that state. period.

That does not mean they will not try to, but they cannot, they can only enforce federal regulations, and or safety (burned out lights, for example).

example:

I got pulled over in maryland for "improper display of a front plate" at a car show.They were literally sitting at the entrance to the show facility (to get everyone who did their mods before entering the show) Pennsylvania does not issue front plates, but front plates are required by maryland law. That "means" to legally drive through maryland you would need your home state to issue you a second plate, which pa will not do by any means, except for a bus or limo. Therefore, the ticket got thrown out.

That's good to know Rabbit, and that makes perfect sense. I just remembered something that does kinda go with the same topic. We can't buy a brand new diesel car like a Volkswagon TDI in New York state, it either has to be used or from another state to be purchased legally here. And I believe it has to be registered in that state, that is was purchased in for atleast 6 months. The stupid crap I tell you... I'm starting to lose respect for NYS. It's getting stupid here.

So to get out of a window tint law and be able to tint the fronts and rears legally to about 20% in NYS I could go to the extreme of owning a small piece of property in Florida or Texas.. setup a mailbox there and register my car there and have my license address switched to that address and say I'm up here visitng a friend? Obviously not going to the extreme just for window tint, just an example.

The officer did state that once you enter the state you have to abide by their tint laws.. I just recalled it.
