lol funny guys, i think people should know when thier cars are overheating
btw, if i could find a place that did real custom work on cars, i wouldnt need to worry about spending mass amounts of time talking about a ECU tune, or trying to search for one

I caught mine overheating once... the fan resistor had blown, so did the fuse. It was in a snowstorm, I had driven about 10 clicks in deep snow and the rad was covered in ice and snow, thus preventing proper airflow. I lowered the windows, put the heat all the way up and the fan on high. I babied it until my destination (I didn't stop because I couldn't see 15 feet in front of me and didn't want to get hit by traffic). Anywho, I cleared the rad when I got to my destination. It was an hour drive back home. Was about -10C outside. With the rad cleared, the car never overheated. That means the fan probably almost never comes on during the winter. It was about a week before I could get it looked at, didn't overheat even in the city.

Weird, 8 months out of the year I keep my Aveo's radiator completely covered with cardboard...like completely covered. It's like 40*F out right now though, so I'm gonna pull it off this weekend.

So just an update for you guys, I made fun of some idiot on youtube that said his car was complete crap because chevy refused to repair his toasted motor because he burned it out after running it dry for a few miles on the highway after a thermo-housing burst.
Karma? Yes. Mine blew only 3 months later.
It IS a defective part. The plastic is HEAT STAMPED/PRESSED together to 'weld' the plastic to hold the thermostat in place.
It does not BREAK, it merely separates at the seams.
The metal one is great, and I think it ran me ~$37 shipped online.
Comes with new thermostat too, but not the O-ring. Mine was fine, so I kept it.
Keep in mind, when you replace it - you will more than likely need some new screw style hose clamps for the two hoses connected to it - because those spring clamps just don't tighten back down enough.

haha, yes. Unlike the moron on youtube... I shut it down.
Parked it, went home ordered the part, then went back and drove it home (1 mile) after it cooled down.
HUGE plume of steam from behind the car, and when I stopped at the light, it surrounded me.
Even on the highway I don't know how you could miss it... moron. lol.

Yeah, I remember seeing that video. What a dumbass, doggin on the aveo because he's f-ing retarded and doesn't understand that when a car starts smoking, steaming or clunking...it's probably a good idea to pull over and shut it off.

Here is a side by side comparison between the two.
I replaced mine very much earlier when the workshop have the aluminium ones.
The temp reading on the dash is not really accurate imo because i have installed a temp guage and whether the water is 90deg or hitting 110+ deg on a track - the needle on the dash always stayed in the same position.
The coolant for aveo should never need much topping up unless u have a crack in the tank like i had before, so overheating is very unlikely.
I also have the internal modified so the coolant always flowed regardless of the coolant temp.
