The OEM plastic one here in singapore cost $45, while the aluminium one cost $10 more.

My 2004 sedan has the plastic one and my wifes 2007 hatchback has the metal one. So far I have to say I've been lucky at almost 114K that its not cracked or broken. I remember that at 91K when I finally got the timing belt replaced at the stealership, which by the way was $698.00, that they replaced the idler pulley, tensioner pulley, thermostat and water pump, and sepentine belt. I asked them about my plastic thermo housing, and they said mine was in good shape and needed no replacement. I may just replace it to be safe.
Just a sidenote here. The only reason I got it done at the stealership was that GM warranties its repairs for 12000 miles or 12 months. Whichever comes first.
