or if you need a car to drive it right this moment for cheap and the turbo and everything are not that important for you, you can get a REALLY good deal on a end if the year sale on some 2009 and 2010 fully loaded models for under 8-9k since the dealer is trying to get rid of the old stuff to make room for new. A few people on here got some really good deals on their cars that way. Plus the 09-10 generation had an updated motor so no problem with the timing belt popping at 60k and damaging the motor.

I drive it normal not a heavy foot.I shift at 2000rpm ,not bad for a diesel and and avarage about4.5-5.5 L/100. city/highway.I live in Kitchener.Iheard stories about the timing belt, that is why i asked about the car.The TDI i love the MPG ,i went from kitchener to quebec city on one tank and that is over 900km.My tank is 55l.As long i keep the speed around 110km/hr, it uses less than 5l/100 on highway.
Once you own a diesel it is hard to find a gas car with similar MPG,but i do like the look of the Aveo, the 4 door sedan.

if your concern is mpg, and the only reason to get rid of the vw is the body rust. Then what about swapping the engine into another car?

a few ways to go, swapping into a light mk1 vw yeilds excellent performance and gas mileage.

i hear they are swapping the tdi into hybrid prius' and getting 100mpg but i have not seen one.or heard actually proof.

Or buy an aveo with a blown engine and swap the tdi in it..

Obviously you won't get those numbers from an Aveo driving the way you drive your TDI. But you'll save a boatload of cash buying a new Aveo instead of a new VW diesel. The price will more than make up for the difference in fuel consumption.

As mentioned: not a problem with the current engine.

Also as mentioned, the 2012 Aveo's highway fuel economy will be closer to 40 mpg (US) compared to the current 35 mpg (US). It will be a few thousand $$ more than the current model, and slightly larger. Probably available early next summer (2011). Pics of the next gen sedan:
