      I'm not saying that this was legal back then or suggesting you do this IN ANY WAY, but WAY BACK in the day I've seen welders who didn't want to overload the home system (they were too weak for the welding machines back then) would make two hooks and long wires and hook up straight to the utility power wires at the nearest wire pole. .

      But back then I think it might have been a necessity (I don't know, I was a kid in another country and I've seen it done in passing, and it interested me, so I came up and asked, so they explained it to the curious kid ), now its probably a municipal or even federal crime.

      its a big crime, and i live in the city. it would not go unnoticed.

      but yes i have had to run new service the whole way into the house and then out to the garage just to safely power this mill without burning down the house. Its idle is a 70 amp draw, and is 3 phase 460v machine.
