Cool Auto cross in stock aveo? pics included

well over the summer my father and i auto crossed the families comuter/ beater.
i was kinda surprised. in stock form the aveo wallows through corners but it is some what predictable. it didn't help i was running a set of all seasons. i was just happy to not come in last in H stock.
next year i will either have a dedicated Impreza or civic to use but i am looking at getting the aveo stiffened up a little bit.
i don't want to drop it cause upstate NY roads suck.
but maybe some nice uprated shocks and chassis bracing. on top of tires.
      on to the pictures....

i love this first pic because it shows how much body roll the car has. there were a couple times where the rear got loose. but that could be because i pumped the rear tires up 5psi more than the front. and i tried flicking the car into a couple corners.

      Hey cool!!

I'm up here in western, Ny. I know what ya mean about the roads. I still would like to lower mine, because of the roll factor.

Your post reminds me of back in the late 90's when I entered my new Cavalier in H stock. It handled surprisingly well, and the lane change was downright awesome...

I was worried because it was fwd, that the hard corners would cause the oil to slosh to the side of the pan, leaving the oil pump starving for oil. - and that car did end up with main bearing issues...but there may have been other factors involved, and it was long after I ran the car thru the event..

It was in the parkinglot of an AC Delco plant,(finger lakes chapter scca) and some workers on break were cheering my car on.

I havent run the Aveo, but I've thought about it. The older cars I collect are still competitive, so it might be a while before I get to enter it in an event. Maybe the summer after I pay it off..

I've auto crossed mine as well. I've lowered it too. Our roads aren't any better than yours, in fact they're the worst theyve been in years. They used that "superpave" stuff, but they claim it was all mixed in appropriately, and needless to say, our roads have been under construction for 8 years now, highways and main / local streets. And all the places that are superpave are bumpy, rippled etc, terrible even in a stock suspension car like our van.. but when i get the aveo on the new blacktop oh man is it nice..

The surfaces we autocross on are all blacktop, im much lower with wider wheels since i autocrossed, but the car did great. Last time I went, I was within a 1/2 sec of my friends 09 civic si, and a full second from my other friends 08 gti putting down over 300 hp.. The best times where the typical miata, had a fully prepped civic that is a shell with a 500hp engine. But the time to beat was recorded by a corvette, and i was only 7 seconds away from him.. I was maybe 8th from last. in a field of 35-40 cars.
