2005 Aveo 5-spd sedan - timing belt broke - being repaired

Just yesterday I picked up an Aveo sedan. Its a galaxy silver metallic 5 speed. I'm pretty sure its the special value model as it comes with absolutely no power options. I bought it off the 2nd owner of the car. He knew the original owner and some of the history which was nice. It does have an aftermarket headunit in it with aftermarket rear speakers and lines run to the trunk for a sub which is kinda nice. I'll have to get specs on the headunit and speakers later. I really haven't done much with the car yet besides bring it home.

And off the trailer. The body is in pretty good shape. There is a decent size dent in the front passenger door, but that should be nothing to pop out. Rust wise its in great shape, besides the wheels.

Look, it even came with extra parts!

Oh... wait, maybe not. Yeah, the previous owner snapped the timing belt, and this is what happens when that happens. So, I have some fixing to do.

And, it also came with a tow hitch (which I find funny).

Look how sturdy it is LOL. Hang in there poor little sheet metal. Actually, to be honest this could be the right way to do things. I haven't looked to see if there is any supports in the spare wheel well.

Other than that, there isn't much to tell. The first owner must have been a single parent or something. The car was pretty dirty. The rear seat cracks were full of toys (got me some new match box cars ), and the door panels are beat up a decent amount. Front is fine, and the front passenger side doesn't look like it was ever used.

In any case, once I start doing some work with it I'll start a build thread to show it all.

Well I know for a fact that the 04-05 have a different block than the 06-08 and the 09 engine is different than the 10-11...I have all the part breakdowns here since were a Suzuki dealer I did a little bit of research on the crankshaft sensor. It is a different sensor for 04-05 and 06-08. Therefore you want to use the old sensor. Unfortunately, were not automotive dealer, so I can only see the parts breakdown, not the service manuals. The link (gm.ws123.net) doesn't work anymore, GM shut them down. I'll see tonight what the procedure is when I get home tonight.

I tried using both sensors, no dice.

I still haven't taken the car to the dealer to have the relearn done.

As promised here is the CKP learning procedure. Now the other thing that could be an issue is the 07 engine's reluctor wheel. If it's different than the 04, you may never be able to get the ecu to learn the ckp. I can't check that until Tuesday.

But for now here is the file. I had to zip it, forum doesn't like .rtf files.

The timing wheel on the crank did come to mind. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if they changed it. I sure hope they didn't! That would create a lot more work for me though haha.

Thanks for the relearn procedure. Unfortunately, I don't have a scantool that can do it. Still gotta take it to the dealer.

I'm glad to say I finally got my car in to the dealer last night. They should be doing the crankshaft relearn procedure this morning. So, I should be getting a call sometime today. I really hope this takes care of it.

Old thread...but damn! That should be a 15 minute job if it's the Tech's first time using a Tech2. What is the hourly rate at this dealer?

A good quality scan tool that can read Manufacturer codes would have told you the problem. Unfortunately most of the sub $100 scan tools can't.
