Haha, I agree. Not to mention it totally screwed up the paint in the area. Mega scratches on the bumper around the hitch as you can see. I'll probably just remove it and patch the holes up.Originally Posted by ontarian_frog
I moved my thread to the photos & videos forum. I'll just roll this into my work in progress thread as I figure out what I want to do with the Aveo.
This weekend I took some time to first clean up the car. I just went over it with the vacuum quick and got the toys and junk out of the car. I don't know how people can clutter their cars up so much, I love a clean interior. I also went over the engine bay and cleaned things up a little.
After that, I pushed it into the garage for some real work. I started disconnecting everything attached to the engine to get it ready to be pulled out. It all went pretty smoothly and it is now ready for the engine to be pulled. Unfortunately, I don't have a hoist handy, so I'll be figuring something else out...
Looks like a little work. We have the body style and color, but we have the automaic. I miss shifting gears. Sounds like an engine upgrade is in the mix. Want to do that myself, but will just tweak and peak what we already have.
probably be easiest to undo the 3 mount and axles and drop it and the tranny out the bottom on a floor jack.
its a really tight fit coming out the top without the tranny, it would be even harder without a hoist.
Thats a good idea, and I've done that before with other vehicles. But, I find myself not wanting to remove the exhaust on the Aveo. The salty Wisconsin winter roads have taken its toll on the exhaust and its pretty well fused together. The nuts to take it apart aren't all that hexagonal anymore. I could cut it, but I'd rather not have to weld it back together if possible. If I can't get it out the top I'll have to go out the bottom. But, I would imagine that the opening is large enough to get it out. Perhaps I'll need to unbolt the battery tray and the other things attached to it... We'll see.
So, I ran to the hardware store and picked up a rope and some pulleys. I got home and hooked it all up. With a little bit of work I had the engine out. It really wasn't that bad at all taking it out of the top.
Thats all the farther I got last night though. I'll get it on the stand in the next few days. I gotta figure out what I want to do as far as an engine (swap or rebuild). I'm leaning towards rebuild just to get it running sooner. I don't want the car laying around not running for long.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen: he works fast. :P
Lol nice.
Too bad it broke like that though.
