its just like daox said, it will use a little more fuel and have a light, several others have "confirmed" this as well.
Getting the light shut off is about $100-200 so when you get some money have it fixed, as it will pay for itself in gas.

The relearn should only cost about $100 (1 hr of labor) to get done. I'd recommend it. It smooths the engine out a bit and just makes it drive a bit nicer.
to anybody doing a swap with a manual trans ..if u buy a new clutch make sure they include an aveo alignment tool ,,apparently aveos share a clutch with volvo,,i finnaly got it working ,,but if i hadnt been around mechanical stuff just a little ,,it would have been a worse pain
Did you replace this engine with a 2006 or 2007? I remember something about having to change intake manifolds , air intakes,,
where did you find the other engine?
I found the engine through a local salvage yard. Car-part.com is an excellent site to search local salvage yards.
The engine was from a 2007, and there were some differences. The intake manifold was slightly different. I think I outlined that somewhere in these 22 pages of info.
had this car repaired by "Posey's auto service in Aug replacing routine belt, idler, water pump
timing belt system,,the head machanic set the belt tensioner incorrectly breaking the stop on the tensioner, I found this out before my son drive out of the shop(high level belt
noise) paid for new tensioner, Sent the old new one back to GM to tell what was wrong with it,, they explained that it locked in the high tension position and never released into
the run mode (this is pointer position coming back off the notch from completing 2 rotation
of the engine) the replacement they installed worked but it also was locked in the wrong position causing the belt to snap 4months later,,no 2005 engines,,so now the engine swap with a 2007 and my reason for asking how your swap out went. thks
that sounds like some terrible luck. but his answers are in here, plus he is not the only one to have done it successfully.
I just saw this thread and my jaw just dropped...... I may buy another aveo in a year just to put the Catera motor in it...... and make it a all out performance car....
I have been looking for a tuner project for my engineering "portfolio" what better then to do a car that I know and <3
Looking back, I'm still glad I dropped the 1.6L back into the car because I didn't want any hassles and needed it done soon. However, I did have a line on a 2.2L for about $100 more than the 1.6L I got. It was very tempting! If I found another Aveo with a dead engine for the right price I'd definitely consider it.
Ya Someone came across with one for a great deal, but had a automatic transmission. And i just didn't want to buy a engine and a tranny right off the back. But My 2005 Aveo Sedan is my audio car for competitions. I think it would be awesome to make V6 twin turbo'd hatch.
I know it would take a lot of customization as well as figuring out the computer.... I think it would be worth it if I can manage enough funds and space for it.
