Glad to hear of the issues! I am looking at an 04 HB that needs an engine and tranny swap - I am waiting on my friend to get that blasted title!
This was an awsome thread - just read the whole thing, it helped me make the decision to go ahead and get the Aveo - so hopefully very soon!
Thanks!
Matt
How much for a dead '04? Start a project thread if you get it!
not sure, i'm waiting on him to get the title - I will, I am excited about it - hope it goes well and I can get the car before November!
I know this is from an old thread , but you may know the answer to a question I have.
I have a 07 Aveo that I need to put a new crank in. I had lost oil pressure and had to put a new oil pump on and noticed that rod bearing for the piston closest to the oil pumpp has spun. is it possible to pull the crank without pulling the motor? I was thinking i may be able to unbolt the motor from the mounts and slide it away from the trans to unbolt the torque convertor from the flywheel and the flywheel from the crank. then pull the crank out the bottom . what do you think is that possible ? would save unhooking all the crap on the top of the engine.
thanks
mark
I'm going to have to say keeping the engine in the car is probaby going to be more of a pain than just taking it out. This is mainly due to the engine to transmission connection. You would at least have to drop the transmission to get at the flywheel/flex plate.
Hey, I know this is an old thread, but by far the most informative information on a swap I have ever come across. I too need to replace my engine. I have found that the 04/05 engines are usually around $800 more than the 06/07/08. I am going to be having a shop do the work, so my question is this. Do you think the money saved on the later engine would be eaten up in shop fees after having to do the "custom" work, and also, is there any advantage of the later year engines that would make that a better choice. I appreciate any input to this question, there were so many good comments on this thread by many different users. Thanks in advance.
Im glad this thread could be a big help.
I would save the $800 and go with the later engine. There really aren't that many differences and they're pretty obvious. Off the top of my head I can recall: throttle body is different (just use old one), intake manifold was different (can use either one), valve cover is different (I used the old one and plugged the big hole on the back right).
If you have any questions, you can always ask.
Wow! Thread back from the dead! Daox how is the 2005 Aveo running these days anyway!
