I am about to get an 05 Aveo and wanted to know is the 07 pulley better than the 05 timing pulley. Seems to me they would have changed it out or did they not. Thanks for the help.

I will try and do a thread just like this one when I start so it is updated. Sounds cool and it will help me to remember where things went too.
What pulley are you talking about? If you're talking about the tensioner, its probably the same.
cannot beleive i haven r seen this article before. very well written, good pics. haynes manuals got nothing on you^
Thanks, it was a fun project. I'm glad its helped others out too.
Refering to the one that snapped or melted down to cause the failure. I had a Kia that broke the belt but everything else was fine but according to everything I have read on the Aveo it is the tensioner or the idler that are freezing up and causing the engine to fail. I understand no-tolerance clearance means just that. I was just hoping they would redesign the pulleys on both as to keep from destroying the engine but I have found the rule of thumb is to change out both the tensioner and the idler when you go to replace the belt every 50000 to 60000 miles. The sweet spot i have found is right around the 52000 miles because that is right close to the mark of destruction. I have found it can go to 125000 miles like my wifes Kia. I had totally forgot to check the belt and well needless to say it was a goner. There are some as low as 30000 miles that have been taken out. I thank you for the thread and we shall see what this car of mine will give to another thread. Thanks
My Barina was purchased new in 2009 (3 door auto 1.6). It has done 34,500 km (about 21,562 miles). My Holden dealer, at the 4 year mark in 2012, as per the service book only changed the timing belt and none of the other ancillary items such as water pump, tensioner pulley, etc. I've read on the net in many places that all items in the "timing belt kit" should be replaced at the same time. The service department here in Australia probably only have instruction to check the condition of the water pump etc while the timing belt is changed. Should I be concerned with the kilometres I drive or don't worry and just have it done at the 8 year mark when the timing belt is next due for replacement? I'm really worried about this.
