I helped sail a boat across the Atlantic from the Azores to Nova Scotia last month.
On the island of Faial, where I flew to join the boat, I caught sight of an Aveo in the town of Horta. Saw a Chevy Kalos as well (before the name change to Aveo), plus a new Chevy Spark.
Most of the cars on the island were subcompacts, and many were diesels (I think that's that's a Peugeot diesel behind the Aveo). It was interesting to see some Euro models that we don't get in North America (eg. new VW Polo).
Was also interesting to see a class of sub-subcompact car we'll never have here: I'm not sure what they call them in the Azores, but in the U.K. they're called Quadricycles - and they're not legally "cars" (subject to different license, insurance regs.)
This one's a "Microcar MC1" and it apparently has a gasoline powered 505cc twin-cylinder engine good for 21 hp. Good thing it only weighs 355 kg / 782 lbs! It's much smaller in person than the photo suggests...
