Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
nice lookin car those tires dont look wide enough for the rims it looks like it stretches them, and how does the back rim not hit the fender? Either way its a good looking car.
-
Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style

He must hang out with VW/Audi guys. Stretched tires is a retarded trend they love.

being a vw/audi guy, i have to say you need to do some research before calling it completely retarded.
i have a 6.5 inch wide tire on a 7 inch rim. it makes the tread sit flat for better handling, CART drivers do this, and with a smaller wheel and tire (13-15 inch) it works well. its the guys who have 18+ that try to follow the early cars who are retarded.
comes from this:

notice the stretch of the tire and rim? this is on a cart that easily goes 100 mph and takes hairpins at 50-60 mph.
-
Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
ether way this car is done very nicely, knowtice 5 bolt rims, and mirriors from some other car (honda fit maybe). as for the streched tires, retarded or not its looks awesome, lets you get that much lower, and vw guys do do it.
-
Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
the rotors on the front are huge too

funny thing is its a euro aveo, proly has a 1.2 or a 1.4 under the hood, so thouse brakes have more "break" horse power then the engine does

That only somewhat makes sense.
The reason that they stretch the tires is because the tire size is limited by the rules. Therefore, they stretch the tire to get more tire touching the ground. On a street car, if you want more of a contact patch, get a wider tire. Not to mention, the tires that they put on there are specially designed to be stretched for the best possible performance. You cannot compare any street tire to something custom made for a racing application.
Plus, you can not honestly for one second tell me that audi/vw guys do not do that for looks only. Like I said earlier, you want a better contact patch, run a better/wider tire. Stretched tires have the risk of popping off the bead during cornering.
Thanks but I have done my research.

Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
if you can see the back side of the edge of the rim, or the car is on airbags and the tires or rim touch the car, it is for looks. and i agree with you a lot (probably most) of vw people do it for looks. they are like a bunch of lemmings on that site. however, if you mount a 225 tire on a 5.5 inch rim. you will have less usable contact patch than a 185 on the same rim. the bigger tire will be ballooned and the side wall will be leaning in to match the rim as much as a tire that is too small will lean out. the difference is any tread that is outside of the rim width is useless and will buckle around a corner. running a 1/2 less tread that tire width the "stretch" isn't really even noticeable. but then i have seen 135's (spare tires) stretch on 7 inch wide rims for looks too.
the original people to stretch tires in the vw crowd were mk1 people. they started by putting 175/50r13's on a 7 inch wide rim. that is stretched. but if you have ever driven on it, it handles great, also allows clearance to lower the car 3-4 inches.
autoX is also restricted by widths, going to wide will put you into higher classes. most people go to the max of each: allowable rim width and tire width.
the popping off the bead during cornering: with as many people who stretch tires on vw throughout the us and europe. the odds of that happening are about as often as tire failure on non stretched tires. and typically occurs from people running dirt cheap tires on the rims in the first place. (something that still uses a steel cord in the side wall)

Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
how does that rear rim not rub? it looks so close. cool looking aveo!
-
Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
nice looking car but the chrome trim falling off the left side kind of ruined it for me
-
Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
I think that is the reflection you are talking about
-
Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
yeah, it's the reflection of the trim in the swage line.
-
Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
no i know the body line dips at the rear look at the left front door the trim runs along the top of the body line until halfway down it starts to sag but regardless nice car
-
Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
thats because that trim comes on a roll. you need to have either skilled hand or put down a tape line to have it perfect enough to not see it at that angle.
i thought the same thing when i saw it, just didn't think anyone else would have noticed.

yeah im aware i just figure for the amount of work that went into everything else to have something like that overlooked is odd

Re: Blue Aveo Tuned in Euro Style
i agree they could have used a much higher quality trim to match the rest of the car.. but that seems to be the norm with most tuner cars you see, well built car with one or two things out of place or not to par with the rest of the car.
a metal backed chrome would have went on straighter but gives you less margin for error since you destroy it taking it off even to reposition.
