DIY Eyelids - Under $5

As part of my budget prjoect sedan hotness on my commuter 2010 Aveo sedan I took my first attempt at DIY Eyelids.

I stopped at my local sign shop and the manager was super cool and gave me 1 sq ft of premium 3m gloss black decal vinyl and some tips. I then picked up some various other supplies and gave the Aveo a little face lift and some extra attitude.

1 sq ft premium 3m gloss black decal vinyl - Free
1 bottle alcohol bonus size - $1.49
1 Exacto knife - $2.99
1 Roll Masking tape - $2.99
1 spray bottle with water and 1 drop of lotion free dish soap - Free
Total = $7.47
Total w/o tape that was not needed = $4.48


Please disregard how dirty it is and the bugs. I thoroughly cleaned the hood and headlight area. I didn't want the Automatic Car Wash silicone soap residue on the headlights before I installed and do not want to wash it until the vinyl sets really well.

is it really a DIY if it doesnt really tell how to do it.
you just put what you need and pictures.

This isn't posted under DIY. This is him saying he did it himself, and then posting pictures in the "Photographs and Videos" forum.

Correct, sorry to mislead. Wasn't an instructable, just sharing some pics and info.

I think I want to darken the inside top edge that shows through the gap between the headlight and hood. It shows up more in these pics than in person but I think it will add to the effect and look I was going for.

What do you think?

I say do it. I was actually thinking something similar.

not big enough for my style..

To be legal in Minnesota I couldn't cover any area that emits light. I tired to follow the shape already there without crossing that line.

will that COMPLETELY block the light beam?
when the light is on, can you see the eyelid has lights go thru it ?

Yeah, next time start with the hood open, put the vinyl down on the headlight, and then have the hood close on top of the eyelid. Looks good though, easily reversible and cheap too.

Thanks, I will be re-doing them soon. And this does not affect the light in any way, it is just border area on the lens housing.

it would look nice IF the eyelid NOT "semi-illuminated" when the headlight is on.
