with the laws for speeding and racing the way they are now days, this is why im sticking with my 1.6L that gets me 50 mpg on hwy and big sound system that i can show off then something that will make me lose the car and my licence in 13 seconds flat.

Its more fun to drive a slow car fast, rather than drive a fast car slow!

I'm just a boring stock runner. I've never even removed factory hub caps from my cars! I've always felt that the less you modify, the better the resale value, but I think I'm going to do something about the bare-bones AM/FM radio in my Aveo. Even my Metros had better sound systems..

The dealer told me it would be worth $1200 in five years.

if it is in good condition in 5 years, the market value for cars under $5000 isn't really predictable. 10 years ago i would have said the market under $2000.

at least around pittsburgh, if it has new inspection stickers and emissions you can get close to $2000 for anything that isn't rusted out, and has a decent interior. even if the blue book is $100. dealers around here sale $2000 kbb value cars for $4000 just by including a one year warranty.

i figure with even stricter emissions requirements on the horizon, and (honestly) a continued rising cost of owning a vehicle. these small econo boxes will do better on resale than everyone will predict. Remember 5 years ago, they told all those people buying big expensive SUVs that their vehicles would still be worth $20k, now most dealers around here wont even accept them as trade, over the past year. And the butler auto auction lot (one of the biggest on the northern east coast) has about 200 acres of suvs sitting not even running through sales.
