I'm new and want to show my car =)

Hey everyone! My name is Corey! I got my 04 aveo hatchback about a year ago and just starting working on it about 3 months ago! I have a low budget due to me being in college and not having much time to work... So I've had to get creative... lol

I'll tell you a bit about myself, I'm from Alabama and work with my dad in a 38 year old business called keenum kustom paint and restoration. We do a lot of hot rods, old muscle cars, tuners, anything! He has been teaching me for years and I am very into cars and simply love the aveo! Because of the fact that it is so different... I've been reading these forums since 4 months ago when I randomly decided one day to start fixing up my car! lol So enough talk I know you all wanna see the pictures =)

looks good for a callege guy, but if you have access to a hot rod shop this car should look way better

Thanks everybody =) Yeah, I know it has a lot of work to be done still, its got a few dents and that back bumper is pretty bad, but I have a new one at the shop in primer waiting to be painted, and I'm spot priming the car hopefully saturday, and then a week from saturday hopefully painting it candy apple red, and ordering a cf hood

not sure how i feel about the stars on the heat shield but whatever its your car..

Hahaha funny story behind the stars... I was half asleep, and waiting for my buddy to get out of his class, so I was waiting at his house bored and decided to paint something with what I had leftover from the cam heads, and painted it black and decided it was a good place to put something and decided a star would be the easiest stencil to cut out, lol... It will be changed soon, Idk if you can tell in the picture but the paint is getting bad, it didn't have enough heat resistance... I'm going to do it black again and probably put a cooler design on it, the I took off the ugly decals today and will be putting it in primer and fixing the dents tomorrow, a week after i will be painting it metallic black and candy apple red two tone of some sort... I'm open to idea!! Orders new low profile tires today and they will be coming in Tuesday I believe, and I will be ordering new suspension to lower it... Or with the machinery I have at the shop I could pretty easily coil the springs tighter... Suggestions on that would be nice too =)

Oh and I pressure washed the motor today! It was kinda fun.... haha whats weird is I've been reading these boards for so long, that I know all of your cars and know you all pretty well too.... lol, suggestion on the heat shield would be awesome! I have auto-mechanics class with this girl with a hatch civic that has her cam cover painted white and red with the red sun on it from the.... japanese? flag... it looks nice

too bad shes a ricer, too bad...

i guess the stars arent that bad, you going to get headers?

Ahhh! thats what I wanted to ask... where do I get headers and which kind should i get??

get them from xiaagy i cant remember his name ever lol

hes the only one who makes them and they are good overall, though they can be a tad costly

How much do you guys think i should drop it? I have some low profile tires coming in in a few days so I'll finally be able to drop it without scrubbing over every bump lol, and I'm thinking about just heating my shocks and compressing them to drop it

heating the shocks wont lower anything, and hot enough the shock might blow up in your face.
take the springs out and cut them with a cut off wheel if anything. go slow to not build heat.

buying lowering springs are better than cutting them right?

if you over heat the metal, you take the spring out of the metal so they will break.

cutting springs is ok, as long as you dont go too far. and do it right.

Think about it before you splurge on a Header.

Is that gonna be enough? Or should you wait until ready for Turbo?

Well here are some new pictures, I've blacked out the corners and tail lights, gotten low profile tires and lowered it about 4 inches, and painted some more interior stuff

i just have to ask, how do you guy on here measure when lowering?

because that is not four inches lower than stock?

doesnt even look lowered :shock:

lol well it had some huge ol' tires on it so that raised it about an inch and then I cut an inch and a half off the springs, I'm about to cut another inch and a half off the front and 2 inches off the back

you dont cut inches off springs, you cut coils. i am just trying to help you here.

and tires don't lower a car. because even though a smaller tire makes the car lower clearance wise, it widens the wheel gap.

now how much of the spring did you cut? i would say you need to cut on full coil at least, that would be a full circle or one time around.

Yeah I know you cut coils but I was just saying inch to clarify the height difference. I cut a coil out already on the front, to give it a rake lowered look... But it's not enough... Aveo's are seriously on stilts stock! So I'm gonna cut another coil and a half out of the front, and 2 coils out of the back....

That's a lot to cut out of an aftermarket spring. I would not recommend this.

Yeah man dont cut more then 2 off an aftermarket coil, i have exactly 2 coils cut on each of my apex springs and it rubs, maybe due to the bigger engine but regardless ill need to buy another set and only cut 1 coil off to stop it from rubbing

it would be interesting to see the weights of both the 2.0 and the 1.6
