Intro + Custom "OEM" Subwoofer Button

      Hey guys,

This is my first post so I'll start with a bit about the car:
      2004 Aveo 5-Dr, Manual
      Tints galore
Aftermarket head unit, 10" Bazooka sub
A bunch of tiny cosmetic mods no one will ever notice

      Here's a pic:

A new head unit was obviously the first thing to go into the car. Shortly after, the subwoofer. Then I needed a switch for it. The normal reaction would be to just drill a hole somewhere in the dash and drop in a toggle switch. But as everyone who has one of these cars probably knows, the designers of this car were one step ahead and gifted me with, not one, but 2 perfectly OEM looking, blanks for switches. Excellent.

      Let the Redneck games begin...

      What you'll need:
      - A push button switch (Preferably one that changes height when open vs closed)
      - An LED (optional)
      - Some sort of saw
      - Random scraps that happen to add up to the proper length
      - Lots of tape/glue/adhesives
      - Wires
      - Basic hand tools

Step 1: Remove head unit and pull out the row of buttons (hazard + 2 blanks). Getting at the screws is a bitch, there's three; left, right and center. Pop out the blank that you will be converting into a button.

Step 2: Saw the head of the button off and get creative making your button assembly. As you can see I'm on my way to becoming an engineer:

Step 3: Attach something to the back of the button head long enough to toggle the switch. Much adhesive was required in my case. Add LED if you so desire.

Step 4: Assemble the 2 halves together, but it back in the button rack, wire it up and test it.

Step 5: Enjoy that OEM goodness

As sketchy as it looks, it's been holding out strong for almost 2 years now.

I joined this forum to get ideas for a clean '07 AVEO5 that was given to me.
