really, all that and it turned it sideways.. :protest:
Omg I am so excited for this!! I am glad u finally posted something!
Hmmm... interesting. Don't forget to document whatever steps you're taking on the project.
Will be sweet!
there are a lot of parts on order, and a lot of "steps" that will be taken. Unfortunately no engine swap just yet.
I am going to try to document it all. We will see how long it takes and if I can keep up with the pictures.
Wooo, awesome. Oh... the anticipation. :)
I guess ill just stick with this thread. I am doing this one thing at a time. Christmas break is coming..

That is still roughed in, sanded out, and smoothed over for a more oem look.
Looks interesting. :)
Wow, that's going above and beyond what I am doing. Might make some progress this coming week. What part of the car is that you just welded on? I can't see it in my head.
thats the hatch, I am shaving it smooth.
a little from today:

This is going to be awesome! So glad you are doing it!
Awesome work rabbit! 1) Smooth hatch will have your car looking way different from others. 2) What bumper are you using for finish out the flaring on the front? 3) Are you using a structure epoxy to attach the two parts? Some of the guys have mentioned screws. 4) Are you going to feather the two parts together or just leave the overlap lip?
I used a structural adhesive, 8115. I smoothed the side body line into the body line that already existed, across the front, the "U" cut body line will be an additional body line, but it will be smoothed in. The bottom lip is a $25 shipped lip for a civic off eBay. I will be adding then hiding some screws to keep it from tearing in case I hit anything.
Also completed this today:

This thread is very exciting!! I look to see updates every day! Cant wait for more Rabbit!

made a bet that I wouldn't do it... so I did...

finalizing the bumper..
Attachment 8791
i did a rough, rough fit... this is mostly to make the filler pieces for the "boser" tail lights. Lot of work needs done.

looking at those pictures I realize I should have set the bumper and spoiler on too..
thought about shaving the door handles?
i really hate door poppers..
i looked into other options, different handles like the flush ones on the aston martins, the sonic rear located up higher, etc.
its just too little gain at this point for the work.. any ideas?
Handles from a wrecked Tesla S? :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxavZ2QxuLY
How hard could it be?
believe me, if you buy them for me, ill put them in. Those are not above my skill level, but the cost of a tesla door is about the price of an aveo. And I don't think i can find used.
I am toying with an idea for sonic style handles up on the pillar.
Car looks like it is a stand still. but it is finish sanding, fitting, cutting, etc. Nothing that can be easily seen in pictures.
Very cool innovations rabbit, looks like you are rolling along at a good clip by the progress! Very tedious, if not back breaking work indeed. Do you have a finish color/scheme picked out yet?
holy those handles are sweet
what about the handles off a 07-11 Sedan?
handles off a sedan would be "ok" but the fronts would need done to match, and the doors are different so its not easy to just swap out..
I did pick a color..
only paint what can be seen..
Attachment 8763
color is molten orange.. its pretty sweet in person.

engineering it is the easy part. putting it in, and making it look right is the hard part.
No pictures today really.. i took some, but they have students in them so they cannot be posted.

I ordered stuff to make a wide body kit, so I need to wait for that to come in, and I also have christmas break coming up.
Wide body kit too? Awesome.
Is there an option that allows users to rotate pictures? It seems like the picture handling capabilities of this message board has gone down. Is possible for the Admins to fix the all important pictures of this thread? After all it is the Rabbit.
