No, there isn't any way to rotate pics when you upload them. They maintain their original orientation. I went through and fixed all the pics in this thread though.

you guys can just turn your heads.. its good exercise. :P (probably the only exercise some of you get)
Parts are in primer, lots of coats and a rough surface.

here you can see how i molded it to the original body line:

And here is the body line i added under the grill:

now it just need finish sanded, and any smaller imperfections filled.
The hatch had a set back, I needed to start over on that portion.
I have a crick in my neck from looking left. Now if the orientation alternated between left and right I can get twice the exercise. Sweet work on the feathering on the front bumper. Going to order mine today and do that over the Christmas holidays.
I'm ready to see the finished product.
When it comes to my car I find a huge lack in motivation after workin on other peoples rides 40 hours a week. Keep up the good work rabbit
i don't know if you noticed, there isn't anything else in my shop. I have 18 people learning how to do body work using my car. We have done a few other projects.
A little about me: I had 10 years in the industry, I can do anything automotive really. If I can't do it, I know who can. The industry treated me very well, I made my money and decided to get out before I got banged up (if you look at the older guys in the shop you know what i mean). I left the industry and went back to school (why I bought the aveo in the first place) and got a Elementary and Special Education degree. I ended up with a job teaching auto body in a special education center. So everyone who works on the car is a student at the school. I honestly try not to touch it, but in showing them how to do "custom" I have been really involved. I have students in all categories of exceptionalities. And they all do their part to work on this car. I do have delays, and not everything comes out perfect.. but for a bunch of high school aged special ed students we give some of the best shops i have worked in a run for the money so to speak.
Rabbit, this is one of your special qualities, your generosity. Your students are lucky to have an experienced person like you. Your advice has been invaluable on this board. Finally after years of owning the coil over kit that you made this weekend I will finally get it on my car. I am pumped about that.
ooooo my god!!!!!!!! ive been off this for too long lol damn business, wickeddddddd work so far! im highly jealous you have done eberything i wanted to do body wise!! its turning out awesome keep us posted pls!!!!!
Well Christmas break comes so quickly. Not much progress over the last days and school is closed until Jan 5th.
Anyone buy anything for their cars for christmas? I spent enough on my car this month..
Wide body stuff is set to be mailed out Dec 29th, so it will be waiting for me after break. A set of sample door handles came in. Not 100% sold on the effort = reward yet. But I am considering it. Gonna have to order more paint, cut in, and engine bay used up quite a bit and I am even spraying the transparent orange over gold pearl to make it go further (look deeper with brighter accent too).
Can't wait to see your work.
I was pricing out 8115. That takes a special applicator and comes in 200ml tubes. Just how much material did you use? So any suggestions other than the 8115? I am sure you have the tools there in your shop class.
Here is a link to 8115
3M 8116 Panel Bonding Adhesive w 8571 Applicator | eBay
I found this to be slightly cheaper:
3M 38315 Panel Bonding Adhesive w 8190 Applicator | eBay
Maybe JB weld in 5 oz tubes (instead of 2 oz tubes)
J B Weld 8280 Epoxy Adhesive 2 5 oz Tubes 3960 PSI Gray 1 2 HR Work | eBay
I am hesitant on the JB weld as the working time is not as long as the 8115.
Does anybody else have any suggestions?
do no get the 8116, it does not "harden" on surfaces as well, and stays a little more gummy. which adds more steps.
I probably used the entire tube. the applicator puts it down like a caulking gun, So i ran a bead on the edge where they met. then screwed them tightly together to get it to squeeze the glue and hold, then a ran a bead on the inside edge and smeared that into the seam with my finger. Then I ran a bead down the outside edge and smoothed it out like a curling edge at about a 45 angle, to the outer edge of the lip to make the body line. After it dried overnight, I I took out the screws, counter sunk rivets into their holes, and then coated them in more 8115. and sanded all that smooth, Primed, and took out any additional imperfections with plastic repair epoxy (instead of putty).. Prime again.
If you want to save on not needing the glue, you could just drill and rivet it, and then use the plastic repair to fix and smooth the rivets. You can buy a decent epoxy filler at most stores. I tried out a free sample when I originally shaved my chevy emblem.

I just read the whole thread, this forum owes Rabbit a standing ovation...always innovating...thanks, PM
Wow how did I miss this. Orange is a hatch color for sure.
Way cool, rabbit. 😊👍🚘
What a direction! I am stoked for the result!
petrified.rabbit, where did you order wide body kit?
the body kit.. not so much a kit. The one I chose is a wide body for a 350z. (i'll make it work ;) )
Haven't had an update, had a few set backs that are finally being resolved. One of my students primered both bumpers, the hood and a few other parts with no hardener in the primer, which was right before christmas. By the time I got back and we attempted to sand it, it just gums up, and clogs everything we hit it with. Its been 2 weeks and almost all that primer is finally off.
The other set back was a rather large grinder cut into the edge of my hatch. It wasn't repairable (i didn't consider it repairable at all) So I go a new hatch and have restarted the shaved hatch, and bozer tail lights.
That is in process. I have also been dealing with all kinds of "teacher" stuff. So progress and time in the shop have slowed. It will be picking up again no though, just in time for a 4 day weekend.
Sounds like a lot of learnin' going on. :D
Thanks for the update.
Here is where I am at:

Basically redoing the rear hatch. I am doing it a different, but better way this time. It will look good.
The wide body is finally on it way. Special order delays bull ****..
I have more to fix, more to fit, more to fabricate, more to imagine and do. With all the extra work redoing body work to the panels I thought were finished, we are going to do some new mods. I get my new class starting Tuesday. The current class was finished today. Some are returning, some are moving on, some will be brand new. It will be fun.
More pictures of the early framing of the hatch:

Here you can see the main support that will create the body line that follows the bottom of the glass. Then I will put in the sheet metal above and below. Still have the pieces just sitting for the bozer taillights trying to decide if there is a better way to do it this time.
Looking good! I have wanted to make my Aveo a rally car for the last 6 years. But right now I am doing well to just keep it on the road. (Not that it's a bad car) just one of life's curve balls.
I'm sure they are just temporary. He usually runs a nice set of multispoke wheels.
Those are my snow tires, and winter rims.
Great build, what school are you at?
Being a special ed center, I am not going to post that for privacy reasons.
Sometimes its the little things that no one will notice that takes the most time:

A lot of time...

A lot of mess...

Room / Flow for a future intercooler.
LNF swap....
I was thinking VRT.
Let my students do all the work on the rebar for new grill, keeping it safe to drive... not that its height from the ground is going to protect me from anything.

I love orientation problems.
rough fitment day... and rough cut day.. for less rough fitment..

gonna be awesome in my humble opinion..

Look how much more room I will have..

this is what I'm filling those new wheel wells with..
and for posterity, the first set of cuts:

That looks sick, rabbit.
WOW!!!! Amazing, absolutely amazing! Your def taking the aveo to a whole new level!
damn son.....;'
you are taking it to a new level of engineering and looks.
1) I see the cut out for the new wheel and the diameter of the wide kit. How are you going to make sure it does not interfere with the door?
2) Once you get the new outside diameter tire how are you going to limit turn angle from rubbing on the inside of the car?
Thanks everyone, its been fun so far. Lets hope it stays fun..
1. The cut out is currently a rough cut (tracing the inside lip of the flare). It will be cut more. There will be no fender in front of the door on the lower 1/2 where the flare rests. The flare will be mounted and move with the door in that section. I am sectioning the flares with the panels (where i can) so they appear like factory, Bolt together parts.
2. The diameter is a big issue, but the rims will stick out further so the back of the tire will be about the same plane as stock. I will clearance everything. So far I have to move the main harness (from wheel well too), fuse box, and ecu. These adjustments will be unnoticeable once done unless you know where they should be, basically up and over, and make the metal move.. Those are all future posts.
