Yes, they can tow, though they aren't tow rated.
I bought a super light weight all aluminum trailer to haul bikes on:
I towed this bike from Albuquerque, NM to WA State - total of 1500 miles:

That's awesome! Did you have anything else loaded in the back or is it just the weight of the bike lowering the rear suspension that much?Quote:

Interesting. Do either of you guys have pictures of how the hitch is mounted toe the car? This is how mine was done when I bought it. I can't say I'd be willing to tow much at all with things like this:

That look home made!
Daox,
looks like the salt off the roads got to your suspension and the home made hitch... even the bumper cover bolts. :) I guess that's one positive thing about having no snow... other than that I would take snow over rain any day..
Impressive. But I will leave the towing duties to my Jeep or get something larger.
What other type of toys do you have?

I'll be removing it and patching the holes up.
I once towed my roomates lifted Tacoma!
I will be installing a hitch on my 06 for towing my small trailer for little things. My wife does not drive my ride due to it being a man trans but when she needs our other rig (04 saturn vue) and I want to pull something I can't. definately will be getting a hitch which are easy to get for this can and there are videos on youtube to install yourself.
Where Can I get the wiring harness for hooking up to the trailer lights. Do you need to splice them together or does it plug in?
You will need a 5 to 4 converter because the car uses different flashing and braking lights. You'll most likely not find a kit, you'll have to splice it yourself, or let someone else do it.Quote:

How about that kit that I suggested he checks out on eBay? There's a chance it might work for our cars since they advertise it as being a direct fit for our exact cars... the link is in this thread here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27855Quote:

Glad it was helpful. Hope it works.
So do I!!! I'll post a pic for you guys to see.
Well, they better should... *g* here in Germany the Aveo is rated for towing: Trailer without/with brakes: 880lb/2.200lb (2.425lb for the 1.4L-engine; no difference between the sedan and the 2dr/4dr-hatch).Quote:

Maybe it's because of the way the hitch is mounted what caused this differences. Or the changed the ratings for the 2009/2010 models. The 2007 in Germany was still a Deawoo Kalos, the 2008 a Chevrolet Kalos and from then on they changed it to Aveo (for the better I think...)Quote:

How about the harness? :?:
Got any pictures of it installed? I'd like to see how it attaches.
Here are some pics of the install.Bare with me I'm not good at this computer stuff... First I attached the hitch to the tow loop under the car. Then you pull out the trunkliner and pull 2 rubber plugs that are furthest apart from each other. The 2 vertical pieces on the hich go in between the bumper and the trunk pan.Take a peek at yours easy to see what i'm saying. Bolts go through into trunk and you silicone around them to keep exhaust out of there. You get 2 plates for each side one to shim it out between the groove in the trunk pan and the big one for tightening your nut to. This install took me 16 minutes. From unpackaging to done. Very pleased with how it went and turned out. I just wanted it to have a more functional car and plan to haul my portable fish house on a cargo hitch behind the car this winter. My aveo saw many days on the lake last year.

I resized all pics to fit the screen like pic one and it did not cooperate. Working on it...
Wiring kit has not came yet.I will post some picks of that install as well.
Thanks for the pics. Yeah thats a bit more robust than my setup!
It will get the job done for me....
Well got the wiring harness and installed it.All I needed to do was unplug and plug in the harness into original wiring. I got interesting results. I have no tail lights,I have hazard lights. If I try my blinkers it will run the opposite side as well very faintly. I will say that I put a screw in for the ground wire to be secured. May need to scrape some more paint for better contact. I don't know what to think of this as it is all a plug in kit....should work. The package for the kit said pontiac g3 on it but it should work. I am left with an expensive "T" harness that may still need to be spliced in. Any ideas?
I found the ground wire on the tailer was cut when i touch them together it works perfect. go figure huh? This kit was so simple to install and was worth 38 bucks to not splice ANYTHING! nice! Thanks for the link. I would recommend this kit for sure. Ready to see how my stock 1.6 will tow my 5x10 with very light loads. Keep you posted.

Well, the photo is real, but according to the comment on Flickr, all he did was move the trailer. He didn't go anywhere with it (or at least not very far).

I wanted to park the trailer with the door toward the house , so this car had a hitch, and was small enough to get in the back yard and get back out.
