where did you get your bug deflector?
A very helpful topic!
I am about to do the wiring with the Curt 56092, Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring for Chevrolet Aveo 2011 - C56092 , however in Australia the trailers have 5 wires, the "T" is 5-in-5-out, the "box" is 5 in-4-out, the turn indicators and brake lights use a common red lamp. Here we use a separate yellow for indicators. I do like the flat 4 pin plug and the flat cable arrangement!
No problems with the 4 wire system, just use the Curt 4 wire harness and US led lamps!
I tow a large camper with my Aveo, some bikers at a local camp got a quick video of me and sent it my way...
This is just before I upgraded the muffler wires..

I tow with my '10 Aveo5. I deliver pianos and organs and other large stuff like that. I was scared to death at first when I got my hitch installed but it drives great. Mine is a 5 speed...
I just ordered a ride rite air bag kit for the rear springs also just to stabilize everything...
if someone could tell me how to add a photo i would... the uploading doesn't do anything...

Restored Trailer behind '11 Aveo.
So...what's the most that anyone has towed with their Aveo for any reasonable distance?
I'm considering putting a class 1 hitch on ours and trying it with our 2 Jetskis. I expect flats will be decent with the engine locked in third gear (it'd be hopeless in OD and would probably overheat the tranny) but I wonder how it'd fare on ANY kind of grades.
The trailer with both skis on it would be around 2K.
Not looking to go any massive distance with it, at furthest probably an hour or two in any direction. I just hate taking my huge 1-Ton diesel to tow the skis around as it's a massive overkill for 2000 lbs, not to mention a fuel pig.
Towing is not recommended with the Aveo and I think max towing capacity is 800lbs. I'm not 100% on that.
Yeah two years ago.
That hitch looks like a tinker toy. For everyone elses sake, dont tow anything heavier than that bike.
Go to Etrailer.com they have a professional easy install hitch that mounts through the rear wall of the trunk as well as under the frame by the tow hook. Works great. Made specifically for Aveo at a very reasonable price. Takes about an hour for a novice to install. I tow a jet ski all summer.

Is your Aveo and automatic? What year? Do you use the Hold Button. How much does your jetski weigh? I am getting a Master Hitch class 1 hitch installed this weekend. $285 including lights.
I have the automatic. I dont need to use the hold button. It drives and stops just fine. Looks totally stupid but works great! There are a number of hitches I have seen. The etrailer is the best design as it bolts to the bottom frame and to the wall of the trunk. Double spread on the load. Go online and you can see the design. It took me less than an hour to install myself. I dont pull anything other than the jetski and trailer.
what is the model and year of your jetski?
Yamaha GPIII 1994 3 seater 700HP - Single axle jet ski trailer
How far are you towing? In stop and go or highway mostly or both?
Mostly stop and go in traffic - 5 miles or less. Bottom line it works fine - Get the one that bolts to the trunk wall next to the lights not just the bottom floor.
Is yous a sedan or a Aveo5 hatchback? The etrailer guy told me the truck mount is for sedans. The hatchback models have no truck mount.
MY apology I assumed you have the sedan. Yes I have the Sedan model
i just bought a popup camper pretty light at around 900 lbs.. do you think the aveo can handle it? also where would you recommend getting a hitch and wiring kit? i will be installing it myself.
I went to Master Hitch and had it installed. I plan on towing about 800 lbs. 2003 Polaris Freedom 700 cc with trailer..I will post a pic
how much did master hitch charge?
$285 including wiring and 2" ball and tongue.. I could have bought what I needed from etrailer.com for $150 free shipping but I was not going to install. It took them 1 hour.
thanks, i purchased mine on ebay for 155. comes with wiring kit and tongue. they are terrible about processing and handling though...
If you have the sedan go to Etrailer.com hey have everything and very inexpensive about $150 for everything. It takes an hour to install and is very easy. I tow a Jet ski thats all I can tell you. Should be OK for a pop up but you need to speak to Etrailer and get the tonge weight and gross towing rate for the Aveo. I think it is 1,000 lbs. Good luck
I tow with my aveo5 its a 8x5 trailer all steel
I got my hitch from etrailer.com
Ive towed over 1500 lbs with mine
As a Surburban owner also the thought of you fellas out there towing with an Aveo scares the heck out of me! I know some of you do, and some of you have in the past. I don't know why.
so heres some pics of my aluminum trailer 'been building in my little spare time.. just gotta jerry wire it and take it out for a rip. you like?? i've pretty meticulously documented this project because if it works as well as i 'think', itll be a nice tracking trailer.

Hey Northguest47 you got any kinda shocks on that trailer? How did you weld it? Looks like a MIG operation? Love your work.
no shocks, xintersecty, just the flexi-ride torsion axles.. i realize i didnt really capture a good pick of them.. but they are minimal. it was a tough choice to go with the 930lb ones instead of heavier rating.. but my reasoning is they would be too stiff otherwise. i bet a few heavy tows wont hurt them anyway. they have adjustable spline mounts too so one can dial in the ride height. this trailer was welded with a Miller MIG setup on 240 volts on a household panel. as you can see the rims and rubber match my car so when i get a flat the spares are right there..
I have a 2010 Chevy Aveo5 Hatchback. Is it possible to tow a 4'x8' trailer from U-Haul, the smallest aluminum box trailer they have. Going to be going around 3000 miles.
Vikin, is it an auto or manual? You'll have to get a weight on the trailer first, if they don't know just take a household scale there and weigh it yourself, both wheels (which should more or less match) and the tongue. Then a reasonable estimate on how much cargo you could pull can be made. Its really hard to find (truly) light trailers - they may say 'ultra' and 'feather' and whatnot but most in my opinion are grossly heavy. Thats why I just decided to fab my own.. keep us posted anyway if you are serious about doing this.
Here's an example of something to try to tow with an AveoAttachment 10483
Here's the example of what I did tow with the Aveo. All 4500kms (2750 miles) of it. Through 3 mountain passes that required light use of 3rd gear. I'll just throw in for thought that this trailer weighed 1376lbs overloaded with cargo, and all-in the little sparky was pulling about a ton of extra weight in cargo and trailer. A ton. And it could still do 65mph with no strong headwinds. Couldn't have been done without the mods, especially the 55 series tires for added (wheel) torque, and the airbags on the rear suspension which were dialed in to 17psi, thats why theres no squat.
Just puttin' it on the record Aveo friends of the little eee tecke two. Not givin' up on it folks, not even close :

You know that is some seriously good welding and workmanship there. Great job

just had to see what everyone had to say on towing relative light items. not got my Aveo yet, & me & wife had a discussion on putting a tow hitch on it thanks to this weekend. but what we would be hauling would be very unusual, his weekend the east coast got a major snow storm, I got 18 inches, well thank goodness power didn't go off, as we keep our generator at our other home, both are rural, & when I expect problems I bring generator here, but have no where to put it. & just leave it outside in the yard. this time I was working too much & couldnt go after it & my wife cant pick it up to load in my truck, so I figure I can put small axle with leaf spring to bolt or weld to generator with lights, legally not a trailer it is equipment, so I dont have title it. she could pull it, just cant pick it up by herself. figure under 300 lbs, 45 miles between homes. not interested in buying second generator, just to leave outside. plus to maintain
