WOLFMAN AK907's Build Thread
Hey guys, I'm new to the site and also a proud new Aveo owner for the past few weeks. I love this new car. It seems to be doing surprisingly well here in the snow too being as I live in Alaska. I haven't figured out how to upload pictures to this site yet, but you can view them at http://www.myspace.com/anagnostou. Comment back with any sugestions for aftermarket please. I'm having trouble finding mods for it. Thanks.

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
there really are not too many performance mods available.
i would say springs and a cold air intake to start. but being in alaska, you will become a snow plow and have REALLY cold air intake which might not run, or warm up?
everything else is kind of hard to get/find. There is talk of a short shifter group buy.. and Xiaogary sells parts out of singapore. and you can make some things on your own. which direction are you hoping to go?

Well, I couldnt find any aftermarket headlights or taillights for it, so I ordered 12000K HIDs and smoked my headlights and taillights with a tint film from decalfx.com. I'm getting my windows tinted next week. Also we get our cars to warm up here buy covering the whole radiator with cardboard, I painted mine black so you can't tell its there. All I'm after now is a cold-air intake, and possibly a new cat-back exhaust system but just a low growl not a scream lol. I'm looking for nice, not rice. I saw some of the singapore cars, I'd like they're factory headlights w/out amber reflectors and they're factory body kit. I need to also get the stock chevy wing. Any ideas how to find singapore parts?

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
xaiogary on here is from singapore, and sells parts on ebay, and ships them to the US
instead of tinting your headlights you should do the DIY on blacking them out, then you could taske the reflector out at the same time. also 12000K HIDs? how much light output is that aren't those like dark purple?
the cold air intake will need modified to fit, the 09 throttle body is at a slightly different angle from what i can tell from pictures..

I'm a little weary about taking apart my headlight housings, but I may do that, it would look better that way. Yes, 12000K is like a blue-violet. Everyone in this town has blue, so I wanted it to stand apart from the rest. I think my local chevy dealer sells a AEM cold-air intake kit for the 09', I have to double-check.

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
Hello everyone, thread revival. This site's been down for quite a while, but it's great to see it up again with members frequenting it. A lot of changes to my 09' Aveo5 since I last posted. I ditched the 17's for some 15's for summer (with coilovers pending) and 16's for winter. Axle-back straight-piped exhaust for now, but running a 2.5" straight-pipe back from the header this summer into a Flowmaster 60 series muffler. I made a custom short-ram intake for it. Added a 7-color LED interior and underbody lighting kit. Tore apart my headlights and painted the inside flat black. Swapped the 12000K HIDs for some purple ones. Finally tracked down the factory foglight kit for the 09 and modified the housings to hold a set of 3000K yellow H3 HID's. Converted all the bulbs to LEDs. Custom stainless brushed shift knob with Greek flag that says GREECE below it with leather MOMO boot. I'm currently working with a company called BlackCatCustom who's designing custom gauge-faces for the 07-current Aveo Sedan/09-current Aveo5. I believe he's also designing something a little different than what's out there for the 1G Aveo's as well. I've been messing around in the shop lately designing some under-chassis bracing and some different bushings...the front end under these cars definitely needs some attention. http://www.ultraracingcanada.com sells some pretty cool stuff for the Aveo, but I'm trying to design some different parts that need addressing. Petrified.Rabbit is also about to start fabbing some really cool parts as well, so keep your eye out for his posts.

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
Looking forward for your parts!!!! Post them up here... and 3k HID's are the best for fogs! That's what I had in my CX-7, HHR 2LT, and in Aveo!!!
Here's a picture of my 3K HID's in my aftermarket projection fogs... :)

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
Yeah, retro-fitting HID's into the 09' fog housings was fairly easy. They look good. I'll keep you posted as I complete my projects...been dragging my feet a bit lately.

Lookey what Mikey scored today in a trade:

I'm putting them on tomarrow with some new, lower profile tires. I'm a die-hard VW guy, almost religously...These are vintage 1983 VW snowflake rims. They are in near mint condition. It was a good find...they just need to be cleaned and polished, which I'll get to tomarrow.

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
Admins, would you mind please re-labeling this thread as "WOLFMAN AK907's Build Thread"? That would be great, thanks.

Wow..... they look nice. They will look even cooler with those lo-pro rubbers... 8)

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
They're not really gonna be low profile, I'm just putting tires on that are 5pts smaller.

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
because there aren't enough snowflakes in alaska, you had to buy 4 more?

No. I'm saving that money for when the coilovers are ready to order. I traded the MB Motorsports 16's I just got last week for the Snowflakes.

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
Hey Wolfman,
I was just wondering if you ever got around to painting the bowties? I saw on your myspace pics that you were playing around with that. I was planning on buying black ones, but they dont exist I guess. lol. I tried to remove the front emblem to paint it, but that was not at all successful. So, unless you have some insight, I'll be painting the emblems while on the car. :)

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
Ummm, I haven't done mine yet, but a member on the other forum told me the chrome piece is held in place with nuts on the back of the bumper, but the gold piece is just glued on. That's what he says anyways. I do still need to do mine though...

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
It looks like on 09-up cars like you guys have there is no option to completely debadge the front (without body work involved). That kind of sucks.

It doesn't really bother me. The big Chevy bow-tie says the car is not a Honda Fit, or a Yaris or a Rio or a Hyundai with an Accent.
There are so few Aveos in my area that people probably wonder "What's THAT?"
I'm not proud that our Woo-Woo is branded a Chevy. But I'm not ashamed, either.

Re: 2009 New Body Style Aveo5
It doesn't bother me. I do want to paint it black though. One of our members on the other board from Russia was selling these nice carbon fiber bowties that light up around the edges...it's on white all the time, but turns red when you hit the brakes. I kinda wanted to order one and see if it was the same size as the front. If it is I'd disconnect the red and just wire the white to my parking lights. That would be cool. $90 bucks.

Oh, cool, just checked out that post. Another Ukrainian Aveo user. I'm registering on your forum! Doesn't hurt to be on both. :D

Re: WOLFMAN AK907's Build Thread
No it doesn't hurt. It's nice because you get 2 different sides of modding. Not to speak out of turn, but I think our forum is more performance driven vs. more Eco-Modding and fuel economy mods on this forum. It's a nice variety. Regardless, there is a lot of valuable information between these 2 sister forums.

Re: WOLFMAN AK907's Build Thread
I dont at all mind the bowtie emblem, just the GOLD is hideous! I actually tried to remove the badge from the front and it was a horrible experience. You gotta take of the plastic shield that covers everything behind the grill. Then you have to be able to remove another seperated which I found to be nearly impossible because the angle you are at. I almost stripped the screws before I gave up. I tried to feel under that separator to see if it was bolted on or not.....no luck- arms arent long enough. I also tried to use a heat gun to melt the glue and remove it with fishing line... DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS!!!!!!!!!!! It messes up the paint and the emblem..... luckily I was able to fix it without harm, but I do not recommend anyone else doing it in that fashion. I gave up for a while but I am going to just paint it while on the car. Not my first choice but it is sorta my last. lol
Definitely going to check out that light bowtie! that sounds awesome.
I cant wait to start modifying my Kalos (its what I have named her.....it works. lol....she is VERY beautiful :) but just havent had the time yet, or the money for that matter.

Here's a suggestion that might work well for you: try laying some black electrical tape over the entire center portion of the bow tie. If you cut it with an x-acto blade you can probably trim it exactly so it looks neat, and not like tape. That way you won't need to paint it, if it ever needs to be redone you can easily do it over, and you have the option of easily removing the tape if you ever want to sell the car.

Re: WOLFMAN AK907's Build Thread
I wouldn't use electrical tape, it'll start to peel after the first time you wash your car. I'll figure it out at some point when I get some time off work, I've been working like 80hrs a week lately, so no time for the Aveo.

Or if you're going to be applying something you could go for realistic looking fiberglass. :D

I can see where you might assume it would, but in fact it probably wouldn't. Good quality electrical tape is more durable and weather resistant than it looks.
-
Re: WOLFMAN AK907's Build Thread
Eh', maybe. I personally think I'm just gonna tape it off really good and spray it on the car. Easier...
-
Re: WOLFMAN AK907's Build Thread
I just got the paint fixed around the front emblem where it had peeled off due to my heat gun mishap, so I'm going to wait a few weeks to make sure its completely set, and then paint it. I'll post pics once I do it, and let you guys know how it goes with the emblem still on the car.
-
Re: WOLFMAN AK907's Build Thread
if you paid for them to fix around it, you might as well had them shave it
-
Re: WOLFMAN AK907's Build Thread
I didn't pay for it. It was covered under their "lifetime warrenty" because it was due to how they applied the emblem. :) I didn't want to be greedy. Lol

Daddy' back boys and girls. Lol thanks to MetroMPG for fixing my account. I'll post again in the next few days with some fresh pictures of the updates to my car. It's been a while. Missed you guys.
