It also reduces restrictions because of the "added space."

Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
was skeptical... googled a bit... these things do appear to work, with dyno runs to back it up.
Will the spacer require longer bolts, and if so will they be included. What about hood/firewall clearance? What's up with the drastic price differences I see. 1" Mustang cobra spacers run $50, audi 4cyl run $119... Why would a 4cyl be more expensive than an 8cyl?
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
Are they port-matched or gasket-matched?
Thing to remember is that spacers don't give you extra HP, it just slows down the amount of HP loss due to heat soak between the block and the IM. And there is less heat transfer to composite manifolds vs metal ones...
1/4" extra runner length isn't going to do anything considering the VGIS, and I'll give you a dollar if you feel a 50 rpm shift in the torque/hp curve.
Also, don't forget that you should bypass the TB coolant routing in order to get the most out of it.
I'm not knocking the spacer, but the claims are getting close to the point of ebayness.
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
3 HP isn't close the point of a 20 dollar radio shack resistor, lol...
EX - Yes, it comes with Stainless Steel hardware. And the price different is simply supply and demand... Sell 1 at $115 or Sell 20 at $50...
MTLSwift - We usually design them after the gasket, which is matched to the head, but the intake manifold is usually a little smaller. If you request it, we would have no problem making it to the head specs.
I have used these in my Project Ford Probe, and am also creating them for my 240sx, and while mine have both been in addition to an acid ported intake manifold, you can definitely feel the different...
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
oh, almost forgot... will it come with a new gasket, or will we have to get one elsewhere?
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
sorry to rain on your parade but they are done already, I have them in the works for the head-intake, GVIS-plenum, and throttle body.
I started on them when at the same time as the 2.0/2.2 CHECK IT OUT
...HERE TOO

I say good, another source for one!

Dudes, everybody has to read the 1st post carefully. It comes with longer bolts AND gaskets.

Yeah I wasn't going to bring that up...

Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition... You haven't got them completed, so they aren't to be exclusive... Mine are ready to go...
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
I was unsure if I should post this, but.... we have plastic intake manifolds. I ran phenolic spacers on my Subaru (http://www.uniquemotorsports.com/subach ... pacers.htm) for a few years and yes they definately keep the intake manifold cooler. Thing is, with a plastic intake, it's not going to heat up. That's one of the advantages to a plastic intake manifold. That said, how is this going to help keep the engine cool on an Aveo when there is no heat transfer anyway? Am I the only one with a plastic intake manifold?
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
saying there's NO heat transfer is a stretch. Obviously plastic/composite is less conducive to energy than metal.
Has anyone done multiple dyno pulls to actually see if there is or isn't a noticeable drop in power between the first and last pulls?
Another good way to test would be with the use a temp gun, I think. Check the manifold temp at warm idle (before driving, but after warm up). Drive for 20-30minutes, check again. Drive for another 20-30minutes, check again.

I said that (composite manifold). Just by touch, it stays pretty cool to the touch, both the manifold and TB (with the coolant lines bypassed) after a 1 hr city driving jaunt this weekend.
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
We did dyno pulls with our Probe we had, and on a stock engine (I/E/H) we got a 7hp increase. We threw on our ported manifold and got a 25hp increase total...
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
does a probe use a plastic manifold?
My custom metal intake is HOT to the touch because it was not coated..while i have touched plastic intakes that were at operating temp that were warm...but not HOT.
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
No probe is Cast Aluminum... thought he meant in general...
Does this mean I can post in your threads as long as no bashing is occurring?
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
He didn't bash, he asked a legimate question about the intake manifold that did not seem to be meant to deter people from your product. So both xtreme and spec-r let's keep it that way.
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
someone needs to chop up an aveo IM and measure the thermal conductivity wrt to phenolic. :)
I guess the point is that you can't directly correlate HP gains between a metal IM and a plastic IM... with metal IMs I've read about 4% gains after heatsoak... plastic + ~90 whp stock might net you 1-2 hp max.
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
From the research I have done which included running phenolic spacers on my Subaru, they don't actually add power, but they help keep you from losing it as your engine gets heat soaked. I can vouch for their effectiveness on an all aluminum engine as found in the subie, but I simply do not see how they could work on a car which already has a plastic intake manifold.
Swaybars would sure be nice though :)
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
oh yes we definetly need some swaybars big time, this car rolls too much
Re: Phenolic Spacers Anyone?
working on it... but since the only test subject I have is a complete engine on a stand, I don't have much to work with right now for suspension products...
