Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
Or can you at least produce an Turbo Exhaust manifold and downpipe to sell, while we F... up our cars to get everything else to work.
I've got a factory WRX turbo and intercooler lined up for my Turbo project.
Flanges are available on Ebay. Saving up cash to get someone locally to build me what I need or waiting until something reasonably priced comes out.
Thank you
Jason

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
originally we were going to use the turbo from an 89 Ford Probe GT, but they are becoming harder and harder to come by.
Every manifold and downpipe designed would rely on the size and type of turbocharger.

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
i say use a ko3, then you could also put on the ko3/ko4 sport for extra.
they are both factory on vw's = highly available, cheap..

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
Working on getting the manifold and downpipe from Mike (mikedudley17) to see about doing what needs to be done to his to make it work, and then doing the mass-production in it.
But I really need something to go by before I finish this. How many people will actually be interested AND have the funding available should this become a reality?

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
I would...might go for the stage 2 kit.
-
Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
honestly i would need to know/see/compare the final set up, and how bolt on it is, and see the cost/hp..
like if its a $2000 kit making 50 hp, i would probably highly consider it.
if the stage 2 is another $400 and gains 15? hp, probably still..
if it starts getting more expensive.. i would start pricing a cobalt ss swap..
2 big things though is emissions and how reliable it is.. like i dont trust the "5th" injector stuff, or sticking resistors in things to trick the computer...
-
Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
We don't use resistors or 5th injectors. Minus the oil pan being tapped for an oil line (even looking at other possibilities) we want this to be 100% returnable for stock should it be a lease car or you decide to trade in after a while.

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
And mikedudley's kit would basically be the stage 2 kit...

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
I just spent my cash on my Jeep.
If I know this were going to be available, I would rearrange my interests to get this saved up.
My wife would much rather spend money on a car that I have than adding an M3 to the driveway.
The VW Turbo does sound like a good option.
Would that rank between a Probe or Dodge T1 and a WRX factory turbo?
Thanks
Jason

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
I want simplicity of install
I agree on the non resistor and 5th injector stuff.
My opinion is to make my Aveo a more fun car. Not overpower the components available and create a non-stop project.
This is my daily driver.
Thanks

I would be interested once the kits are completed

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
This sounds like a good idea if it IS actually a pretty easy bolt on. And if it's around 50 HP for under a grand or around a grand... or 70 for 1300 - I would go for it. Would you guys offer installation? If so, where are you located? Thanks.

Surprise the 'Wolf' didn't jump in first.
But yes, it's a dead idea.

You both have a point. I bumped it without realizing it's been almost a year since the last post.

Haha, back when I used to post 20-30 times a day. I moved up through the ranks pretty quickly. I miss some of the members we used to have...

Look at that. You joined a year later and already have double the post count.

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
Oh, my post count hasn't changed more than a few since like last Sept or so when we started the new board.

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
This thread is really not the place to keep that discussion going. If I recall the guy who started this thread took members money and they never got parts. I CANNOT say however if the issue ever got resolved as that is about the time the forums were being spammed. But you don't want people contacting the original poster without being able to verify if he is legit.
That said xiogary has turbo manifolds available for the etec engines. The ecotec engines seem to potentially have direct fitment with a vxs-r turbo manifold but that still needs verified. So options for the manifold are out there. I personay am someday checkinto the vxs-r manifold and seeing if the computer will just plug it. That and a few other pieces matched off the oem setup should be an effective turbo setup, hopefully.
For the etech guys piggy back or standaloneare the best options unless you adapt somethng from somewhere else
another project I want to attempt in the faarcar future is making a replacement harness and running a vw 1.8t system as management. But it would be all the sensors and such but programming would be available from multiple resources.

Re: TURBO!!! **Updated 3/26/08**
Thanks for the info Rabbit. I was unaware of that. I'll move my post out of here to discuss in a seperate thread.
